I took my girlfriend to Chester away last year with the promise of a stay over and the zoo for Valentines Day. We lost in injury time and if pissed it down all day the next day :(

Hilariously disappointing night! I think Bolton's a real burgeoning talent for us but his hero to zero act in injury time was phenomenal. One of the younger fans on the coach shouted "SEASON OVER!" for ages and had a go at a few of our pensioners because he never saw them chanting, got back to Leeds on a pacer train at half one.

What's more tinpot than Met Police?

Vauxhall Motors and Cammell Laird?

West Cheshire has problems with setting up non-league sides affiliated to towns rather than local works.

I am being mean as both had a great set of fans when we went, even though both followings were very small indeed for the levels they were at. It was sad to see them both undergo big voluntary demotions last season for long-term security as neither have much of a chance of coming back up.

Heartbreaking, particularly for Vauxhall Motors, as I believe they got little or no support from the motor company. Shame on the people of Ellesmere Port (pop over 50,000) for never getting behind them. Knocked Queen's Park Rangers out of cup as well about 10 years ago.

Yep, but that's not all. I don't think the words 'valentine' and 'football' should be in the same sentence.

Why? Most clubs do a tasteful line in Valentine's Day edible lingerie. OK, so I'm misusing the word 'tasteful' a little bit.

Northampton having a John Joe O'Toole day at Mansfield on Saturday where fans are asked to don wigs and a hairband. You won't beat that for tinpotness.

Curious about the phrase 'the ones you love'

I honestly didn't know they practiced polygamy in Braintree.

What's a VIP Ticket at Braintree? Do they give you a couple of tickets to Nandos instead of the game?

Bristol Rovers getting relegated on a wage bill of £3.5million!!! (obviously not playing budget but must be close to £3m on player wages!!!

http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Rickie...istol-Rovers/story-26014443-detail/story.html

How can a club get relegated from league 2 paying such amounts? Surely a budget such as that could get you promoted out of lge 1, what is there losses going to be this season especially if they don't get promoted.

They might as well have been relegated on the budget we had of £1.1m and saved themselves £2.4m..
It's not a very flattering adjective I'd use to describe Rovers' "achievement" but it's not tinpot.

Say it in hushed tones on this forum but according to fans on our forum there was a game in the seventies where Rotherham brought one fan to Brunton Park.

It's always been an ambition of mine to be the only Aldershot fan at a first team game... Sad to say I've come close a few times this season...

We've won the Cumberland cup 6 times in the last 13 years, although we don't take it seriously and I don't think we ever field senior players unless they're returning from injury or are a way out on the fringes of the squad although a number of our current senior squad played in it during their academy years and Paddy Madden scored in the final a few years back. We won one final a couple of years back 8-1 despite fielding no players over the age of 18. There's just such little competition, quite telling really that the second most successful team in the cup's history are Gretna.

EDIT: Posted into wrong thread, this was supposed to go into the county cups thread... deleted post... then reinstated it since people have replied to it.

Is there a Westmoreland Cup that Barrow and Workington enter?

We've entered a youth team for the Herts Senior Cup for the past few seasons and have usually lost in the first round. This season, we lost to St Margaretsbury of the South Midlands League. I'm not sure whether we're entering the HSC next season due to the fact that it will be our third season at the Hive, which has never been in Hertfordshire.

Two involving Accrington Stanley (surprise, surprise)

1) We (Bury) played them away about 2 weeks ago and they had to borrow our tonnoy announcer! The players entered the field to "come on you mighty shakers" at an away match! He also mispronounced the Accy players names a few times much to the anger of the 900 or so Accrington fans.

2) They tried selling tickets for the "match that never was" against Man U, tinpot in the extreme.
