Quite funny we are chucking on kids they throw on Mullin and McLean!
Both suspended for Saturday so it would have been about getting some game time to keep touch, otherwise they wouldn't have been around the squad.

Gulf was big by the end as PV youngsters tired and three main players came on for us but up to then, and especially first half , Vale were the better side without threatening to score outside of the actual goal.

Thats pretty much the story of our season with our first team as well, excellent midfield but dont take chances.

I think both teams got what they wanted from the night, you wanted to win it, we wanted to give our youth players a chance and not risk further injuries, if we'd wanted to win it we'd have kept some of our big players on the bench rather than a load of 16/17 year olds so a good night for both sides in the end and a very proud one for our owner and the academy staff.

Mainly based off a decent looking 2/3rds of a season with Barrow before we signed him.

Agree he has done nothing for us in his limited opportunity.
Last night summed him up. No pressure down the right of the box, and kicked it straight out. Absolute dross.

You'd say Waters is a decent L2 player? Blimey, he's on a par with Michael Bakare!

Thats a little harsh. He's a decent top end NL player, would probably do a job at a team at the wrong end of this table, if given game time.

He's got no place in our squad atm. This season Bickerstaff has done enough to show he deserves starts ahead of Waters so that makes him our sixth choice striker, on what is no doubt a decent 3 year contract. Move him on.

Succumbed and went last night.

Beat Villa u23s 3-2.

Gave a half to Adam Campbell and Harry Ransom as they recover from injury.

I really went to see some of our back up players. Mukuema looked ok on the right of a back three. Adeyamo looked good playing as a left winger (out of position). Could see him getting some proper game time soon

Rumours of just 23 Burton fans at Donny on Tuesday, only marginally less than they would bring on a standard league fixture but fair play anyway.

Who else is excited about this (largely pointless) round of matches?

The most pointless game ever for us tonight ourselves and Newcastle u21s on 0 points and both out. Just glad we've treated with the respect it deserves. The bare minimum 4 "first team players" all of whom have barely played really. Then half time make 5 subs and go with a complete team of 1st year scholars and u18s. Less than 500 home fans aswell, which I think might be a record for a competitive game.

We’re out, thank fuck. Look forward to a 38 year old Ronaldo playing against us for Newcastle U21s next season when he needs minutes after joining on loan from Al-Whatever

Beat Barnsley 5-1. Topped the group with three wins. Used up all our goals for the next ten games though.

Que sera sera - what a team!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we draw anyone who has finished runner up in the group for the next round.

Liverpool, Port Vale, Forest, Fleetwood, Stockport, Barnsley, Lincoln or Burton.

Give me Liverpool, because why not.

We finished last night's game with an XI of 3 2nd year pros, 1 1st year pro and 7 scholars. All aged 20 and under. Hilarious, just what the EFL claimed was the purpose for these games, with the Newcastle lads playing a team YOUNGER than what they'd normally face in reserve games, not more experienced. What a joke.

Least we won and a couple of the young lads scored.

This is obviously a joke competition but 21 academy players have played for our first team this season. That's a remarkable figure.
It's what makes us unique, no other club does this.

So the knockout rounds don't even have set dates, just to be more convenient for the PL clubs. Fuxake.

Well done Swindon (and Exeter) fans, for showing this contest the respect it deserves:

"The match saw an attendance of just 644 fans, which is the lowest number to have attended a first-team match at the County Ground since 26th October 1910, when Swindon beat Bristol Rovers 6-2 in the second round of the Southern Charity Cup. A match which was likely vastly more entertaining than this one."

I think Swindon currently being a bit shite probably also helped a bit.

I know no one is interested, but here’s the draw for Round 2.

We got Liverpool, but sadly no visit to Anfield (assuming they even play there).

Earned us £30k in prize money thus far with another £15k up for grabs in R2.

I fancy us to do well in this comp, I don’t know why.

We’re beating Liverpool kids 1-0 after 5 minutes, could have been two but Cook was offside for one of them.

Cook missing a sitter. We should be at least 3-0 up. Hope these missed chances don't come back to bite us on the arse.

Burton winning 2-1 at HT. Considering they've sent what is pretty much their first team it's no wonder they are struggling in L1- they look very poor.

The referee also didn't give a clear penalty which might have had us going in on equal terms.
