Liverpool look decent going forward, Ben Doak playing for them who looks next level.

Oliver makes it 3-0. Good to see him back amongst the goals.

Beat Liverpool's toddlers 4-0. Should have been about 12-0 tbh.

Lost 3-2 in the end. Thank goodness.

If I was a Burton fan I'd be very worried how close that was against our reserves. But as it is their fans were celebrating as if they'd won a game that matters.

Less than 400 home fans tonight, and out of this joke competition. Win win.

Into the last 16 we go!

When is it plausible to start taking this competition seriously?

Woah woah woah. You lot pack the stadium out for these games, don't think you've got any right to talk smack about another teams fans and how they conduct themselves in this tournament.

Disappointing to see the mostly big teams left. Means we'll see another well attended final and the EFL will carry on with this stupid format for another 5 years because they see it as validation that it works.

Still, only 2 U21s teams left, including none in the Northern Section.

And we get rightly lambasted for it, but you can't get tickets for our games so I understand why people buy them when they can, it's also the first time in 15 years that we've been in this competition so there is still a novelty factor. Even then last night's attendance was one of our lowest in three years.

But I was more talking about their reaction given that their first team scraped past our reserves. Burton are a League one side- was just a little bit sad seeing them give it the big one.

We beat a, pretty much, first team Gas last night. First game for their new boss. We had our usual team out for this. Players who are not currently starting plus a couple. I didn't go but Conroy played recovering from injury which was handy.

Told it was a belter from Forster that won it. Ran through the defence before scoring.

They had a player sent off for bringing Forster down when he was threatening to get clear again.

We have reached the last 16. Nose bleed for us.

When the EFL has stopped selling their arsehole to the Premier League so they can use it as a training competition for their toddlers.
Not before.
Did anyone really give a fuck about the competition before the introduction of Prem academies, though?

What’s the difference?

Principle! If we lie down and except this it opens the door to B teams being allowed into the league’s

Most weren’t that bothered about it before but it was seen as a chance for a day at Wembley for teams that normally don’t get much chance to go there.
Now I can honestly say I wouldn’t go to Wembley if we got there in this piss pot trophy.
DVR is spot on.

Not until all the academies have been beaten. Even then I wouldn't attend a match in this competition until they've been given the permanent heave ho.
Bring back the system from the early 2000s where we had 8 teams joining from non-league.

Football sold its soul for money a long time ago, that started with all the sugar daddy owners and sky money. This is just another example of that. Whilst I don’t like kids teams being in it I totally get it from club’s perspective’s. Our attendances have around halved in this, but I bet the prize money on offer has more than doubled since the introduction of academy teams. So it’s easy to see why for those who aren’t lucky enough to be propped up by a rich benefactor, would be on board to this.

Us for instance, if we won the thing with prize money and gate receipts you’re probably talking over £600k profit in a season. What other opportunity is a club in league 2 going to have to make that sort of cash realistically? And that’s coming from a supporter from a club that has been to a major cup final and quarter final in the last 10 years. Unfortunately we’re a self sustaining club, until a rich owner comes along I won’t complain if the club go for this.

Commiserations to all the Wrexham fans, who must be gutted with nothing left to play for this season now.

However, out of the ashes of their disappointment a new clubs arises with pounds signs and visions of Wembley glistening in their eyes while pretending that this competition is now all of a sudden okay. Willing to trade in their moral fibre to quench their thirst for success after multiple seasons devoid of joy...ladies and gentlemen, Bradford City are officially going for the EFL Trophy.

Crawley away at Posh in last 16.

I'd say that's us out but they are playing Leeds in the FA cup the weekend before so we may have a chance.
