would take amond in a heartbeat. some york fans on our forum- inc me- would take elliott from cambridge if he fancied moving back north. but that is from seeing him once this season and a few goals on the fls. expect a few scunny players who have been released to end up here, especially slocombe- went to college in york so can only assume he is from here

I think we should have the argument about who is better, Meikle or Blair, again.

Burgess & Luke James transfer listed at Peterborough. I'd love Burgess back!

Abu Ogogo has gone from us after 6 years. I'm not as gutted as I thought I would be, maybe because I've expected this for a couple of months now. Don't begrudge him the move at all, excellent servant for us and really deserves a move to a League One club. What will be big for him however is whether he wants to play midfield or right-back. As an RB, I miss him a lot as I feel he's probably the best we've had since I've watched Daggers, but as a midfielder (which he's been playing us for the last 2 years), I won't miss him as much. We have options there and to be quite honest, it's not his best position. There seems to be an idea that he was being looked at by a Championship club a while ago as well, and I may have mentioned on here I reckon that to be Millwall.

Some good players on that Peterborough transfer list. Wonder what sort of fees they are looking for.

Wasnt the Luke James fee rumoured to be around £1 Million? They will surely have to take a huge loss on a player that hasnt performed at league 1 level.

That fee looked massively inflated even without the benefit of hindsight, it's not like he was massively prolific at League Two level before they signed him.

You lot after goalscorers this summer ain't you?

Looking at our release list (plus our obvious weaknesses this season), I would guess we'll be after two strikers, two wingers, at least one centre back and a back up left and right back. Maybe a midfielder too although less obvious.

Here is our release list:

The Hatters have released seven players from Kenilworth Road with their contracts not extended for next season.

Strikers Alex Wall and Charlie Walker, midfielders Jim Stevenson, Kynan Isaac, Ian Rees and Charlie Smith and defender Brett Longden depart the Club with our best wishes for the future.

Furthermore, Curtley Williams, Fraser Franks, Alex Lacey, Ross Lafayette, Andy Parry and Matthew Robinson have been placed on the transfer list.

Shaun Whalley and Ricky Miller remain suspended, as does Danny Fitzsimons following a breach of Club discipline.

Not really sure how this list works to be honest - as far as we know, Franks and Parry were already out of contract so not sure why they haven't just been released.

That's pretty brutal but I suppose Sturrock wants to get his own type of players in.

A bit sad to see Kieffer go but maybe we don't have the time for him to develop fully. I understand Edwards not wanting to drop into League 2, interesting to see where he ends up. Hayter's been a great servant but it was the right time. I hope the 4 offered terminations take them, we really can't afford to be paying dead money.

How was Berrett for you lot, didn't seem to play too many games?
Was fairly shite for us, and I was surprised Yeovil took him on.

Obviously they weren't and trigged some sort of extension at some point. The club haven't really publicised this very well this season.

Notts County have announced their retained list. 9 players leaving, only notable ones are Hayden Mullins, Shaun Harrad and Mustapha Dumbuya.

Roy Carroll and Alan Smith have signed new deals. Garry Thompson and Gary Jones have been offered new deals whilst Kevin Pilkington and Mike Edwards are in talks with the club. Thoughts Notts County fans?

Yeah the PR in regards to contracts has been very poor, pretty much everyone (including the local papers) were operating under the assumption that they were out of contract. It's also far from clear how Guttridge and (in particular) Lawless triggered new deals considering they've not played much. Oh well!

The lists of released and transfer listed players really highlight how many players we had on the books who were nowhere near the first 18, never mind starting XI. Put those wages into more quality and less quantity and there's no reason we won't have a far, far stronger squad next season.

Didn't make much of an impression so no surprise he's been shown the door, was injured for large parts of the season but when he did play was very average. Only thing of note he did all season was scoring the winner against Swindon.

Think we're still at 29 players, so I'm also certain that it will come down more in the next few weeks.
Also think Andy Drury will stay and get another chance next season, but vast improvement required. Possible £130,000-£150,000pa salary not being well spent.

Is Alex Wall likely to drop back into the Conference?

I wouldn't say it was 100% certain, as I'd say he's "got something", but he really needs to start converting his potential into goals. He'll probably need to go back down, to come back up. Wouldn't be a bad signing for Wrexham IMO.

29 doesn't sound right, unless we are including the real kids like Gooch and King who will be on youth team salaries.

In terms of actual first team squad players, I make our retained list (if the transfer listed ones all leave):

Tyler
Justham

Wilkinson
McNulty
Griffiths

Doyle
Smith
Drury
Lawless
Guttridge
Howells
Pelly Ruddock

Benson
Cullen

I guess we may as well include McGeehan as that's a done deal, Harriman sounds likely too but as it stands, no deal in place.

I assume Whalley, Miller and Fitzsimons are all ear-marked for release once the club/police investigations are done, otherwise why even mention their suspensions on the release list announcement? I'd be amazed if they aren't shown the door once the suspensions are up.

In addition to that lot, there's the ones who have been nowhere near the first team and will be on pittance wages, but presumably will be kept on in the development squad (Banton, Onyemah, Trotman?). Plus maybe Lee Angol, no news on him yet.

I wouldn't mind us taking a chance on him as we've lacked a bit of a physical threat up front for a while. Expect he'll end up at Braintree or somewhere though.

Discussed it previous thread.

Carroll - Good obviously.
Pilkington - just a coach/emergency keeper. Top top bloke too so good to keep him around.
Edwards - fitness coach...should never ever play. I think he's staying purely as a coach too so *shrugs*
Jones - not terrible but I wouldn't have kept him - he's 38 and so fucking slow.
Thompson - 12 goals but he's fucking terrible 35, needed releasing (there's a theme here)
Smith - WHOEVER SANCTIONED THIS NEEDS A BULLET BETWEEN THE FUCKING EYES. If he's staying purely as a coach then fair enough but we already have 3 coaches in Moniz, Kevan and Yates...did we really need another? I fear he'll be a player/coach again but honestly I can't even bear the thought of him playing a single minute for us. There's atrocious footballers and then there's Alan Fucking Smith.

We're also in talks still with Bajner - who isn't bad but I've really got no interest in keeping him. He's just 'meh'.
