Someone was comparing attendances, from Christmas onwards with our three stands all bar one or two games sold out. It wasn't a boast about selling the ground out, it was a reason why our average gates weren't higher.

And I think I'd rather have a ground 80/90% full compared to Vale Park with its swathes of empty seats

True although as per your last visit when it is full it does create a top atmosphere!

Remember going Vale Park a few times in the 80`s, it was a huge stadium
back then, lovely old ground.
Got a kicking when we went into a nearby snooker hall to try and get
a pint one time

My dad is bigger than your dad, blah, blah, blah.

2013 Promotion season League 2 : 5727

2016 League 1, higher away crowds : 4993

The reasons are simple, people watch a winning team. A lot are apathetic these days due to lunatic chairman and tripe offered on the pitch.

Whatever crowds either club get, sixfields is toss and a typical characterless in the middle of nowhere stadium. Vale Park is too big and one stand is still a building site 10 years on. Neither of us can crow.

I can only base my view on whether we're a bigger club than Northampton on my time following the Vale, which has been 30 years. During that time we've played in a higher league than them for 18 seasons, in the same league 11 times, and below them once. 9 of those years I've watched us in the Championship, where as Northampton have spent 19 in the bottom tier, compared to our 5.

Given those stats, it's hardly surprising that Vale fans in the main, consider Northampton to be a smaller club than us. I don't know why that has caused so much offence or response.

All that though, means nothing when we start the new season in the same league, especially when they've just tempted our manager to them. I know which club is moving (or at least appears to be) in the right direction, and it isn't us.

Don't think it's caused offence, I was just responding to someone crowing about average attendances this year when we had some mitigating factors. We are a smaller club, and I don't think many would disagree, can't remember otherwise being argued in this thread.

Hope he relegates you.

Hard to say how he will do. He got us into good positions a few times but never got us mentally right to get that top six spot. Every single time we could reach it we'd lose, and sometimes horrifically. Chesterfield 3-0, Burton 4-0, Wigan 3-0 some examples.

First season we were three points of the play offs 48 points with 11 games to play and lost the next six before 3 draws and a win scraped our surival second last game.

Home games we were generally decent this season, away I can count two decent away performances at Peterborough and Gillingham in the league. We scraped a few other away wins but weren't convincing in them.

If he creates a strong bonded team he could do well, he's tactically not great, has his favourites and very negative away from home so still a lot of developing of he's to become a good manager.

Northampton are in a very similar position to us when we first came up. New owners, promotion, positive vibe. We are proof that it doesn't always last. Your owner is certainly more sane than our nutter!
