Long trip to a side unbeaten at home but in theory we shouldn't be the ones having to break them down and by the sounds of it going pear-shaped for Carlisle so hopeful of a solid win, even on Saturday we created some chances against a solid Tranmere defence and just need a bit more luck (and no Nathan Thomas)

FYI Indian Dan - apparently the 700 cap is from police advice following Swindons away crowd at Stevenage.

Apparently Northampton were advised to do the same?

Unfortunately that sounds about right. I was at both Stevenage and Northampton and the people causing this 'trouble' are not your usual common or garden hoolies. These are your teenagers who think because they wear those stupid overpriced jackets with swimming goggles in the hoods or stone island t shirts that allows them to act like total nobs. I suspect some of these clowns might get some sense beaten into them on Saturday.

They were dealt with very sensibly at our place and nothing got out of hand so seems a bit unfair to be capping away allocations. Stevenage stewards obviously just shite.

Plenty of needle I imagine at the Memorial next Saturday. Garner in our corner, Pitman in theirs. I suspect things may boil over. Should be a great atmosphere and not a drum in sight!
I used to think it was a drum up Pitman’s shirt. Who’d a thunk it was all him!

Regardless of whether or not the stewards at Stevenage were shite or not, there was absolutely no need to break seats, throw advertising hoardings onto our own fans or throw bottles and rubbish bins onto the pitch.

We rarely do well against Carlisle, might have a chance of getting something this time given they aren’t in the greatest form at the minute.

Not so:
2 home wins Carlisle:----> 3 away wins FGR

Carlisle’s home wins:

FA Cup [Dec 2019] 1-0,
League 2 [Jan 2018] 1-0

FGR away wins:

League 2 [Feb 2021] 1-2
League 2 [Nov 2018] 1-2
Conference [Apr 2005] 0-1

unless you have one of those 'reputations' for always ending other teams' runs of bad form.

We are still unbeaten at home this season so something is likely to end on Saturday.

Not particularly, although our main thing used to be losing at home to teams bottom of the league. Apart from when we were bottom obviously, then we often used to beat the league leaders when seemingly unable to beat anyone else.

No obvious trends like that under Edwards yet, wouldn’t be shocked if this was 0-0. We’ve tightened up defensively but against decent defences we’ve started to struggle a bit in front of goal. Take the Stevenage game out and we’ve scored 1 in 4 games v Vale, Exeter, Northampton and Tranmere.

Chris,

I was also under same impression that FGR don’t perform well against Carlisle until I had a look at our results against the Cumbrian’s.
Both you & I have long memories and in FGR’s first season in the Football League, Carlisle did the double over us. And in 2018-19 they put us out of FA Cup plus winning four league points.
Those two seasons stick heavily in the memory bank.
It was only last season that FGR did the double over our northern rivals, which obviously bodes well for Saturday.

And those with longer memories than me know that the FGR away win in April 2005 helped save FGR from being relegated to Conference [North].

Yeah that 1-0 at Carlisle was the definition of smash and grab, couldn’t believe it when Damon Searle scored thought we were nailed on to get hammered. Unfortunately that was our only win in the run in and we were technically relegated with a game to spare. Luckily (for us) Northwich got demoted thanks to that crook Mike Connett which saved us from the drop.

We started the season doing well defensively but it's started to unravel since Hartlepool. You could see us holding on for a 0-0 the way we started the season... maybe it's not impossible that we could return to that level and at least become a dour defensive side if only we could sort our our attacking... or maybe it is. :dk: who can know?

I see a few non-league matches are being called off due to the fuel issue. Will this affect games at this level?

As for Sutton. I’m neither overly optimistic or particularly doom laden about our trip to Northampton on Saturday. Whilst our away form has been dismal results wise, performance wise we haven’t been to bad. Just need to convert the chances we create.

Saying that I wouldn’t be upset with a draw.

Won't stop FGR's electric bus from turning up at Brunton Park on Saturday.

More's the shame.

Our team coach is not electric, was parked outside the players entrance with engine running the other week and made me cough walking past it.

How many do you think you’ll bring up? Not too far and easy to get to via train.

Relatively confident about how we’ve been playing recently, have created a lot of chances and have made a good start to the season. 2-1 us.

I think most professional teams will be ok.................Having said that I wouldn't be shocked if one or two teams used trains instead or if a few teams have a problem or two for differing reasons.

Stevenage, ugh. We've got a seriously gruesome record against these. 8 defeats in our 11 previous encounters and just one win (in our last meeting, so things are looking up I suppose). I'm slightly confident, but I was more than slightly confident about Sutton and Oldham, and that didn't go well. We don't score many goals at all and that leaves us uncomfortably vulnerable, though our defensive record is more than solid.

If we can score first I fancy us to nick it. We have an outstanding record in protecting leads under Challinor's management, and we win a very large % of matches in which we lead. I'll go for 0-1, but a defeat would be no surprise at all. The only thing that's certain is that there will be more Pools fans in Stevenage than ever before. Home and away attendances will hold up very well while the feelgood factor remains, but we need to start grabbing some wins on the road to keep that vibe going.

I think there's almost a bit of pressure on us to get a result down there.

After this, our November and October fixtures look proper rough on paper like.

Lack of goals is a worry and we look very one dimensional at times (only real threat coming from wing backs). That said, you look at how many goals are scored across the division and its very low all round. Seems most sides lacking a goalscorer so finding one will be tougher.

I hate Stevenage, the ground, the town, the way they play and they usually stuff us. Time to put that one to bed ahead of a tough run coming.

If we bring over 200 I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Our core support is still growing, so 100-200 is going to be the norm for any match outside of the south east of England

Mansfield away still leaves scars - the only time I've been there we lost 8-1. Hopefully gone are the days of them hitting us for 7 or 8 every time they play us.

Had no idea Mansfield were bottom of the form table - we stand a chance of taking three points. Our own form has been LDWLDW, so hopefully the cycle doesn't continue.

Our second half on Friday was the most cohesive football we've played, we're looking good. Let's see if we can do it over 90 mins for once.

yeah we won in the opening game of the season and then the 2nd, we’ve opted out of winning ever since.

I'm sure that's a tongue in the cheek remark but even so its worthy of a serious reply.

Anything more than an fivver on any football match is folly.
Check out the 'PREDICTION LEAGUE' for confirmation that most participants would have lost money this season.

And of course the Football League have become concerned with problem gambling that some clubs such as FGR are leading campaigns to rid gambling from the sport.
Before start of pandemic FGR supporter's ran a successful match day raffle. Since crowds have been allowed back in stadiums that raffle has stopped.
Guys who bought tickets were not problem gamblers but ordinary people spending a quid for fun. That was the biggest source of income for the Supporter's Club.
I wonder if Dale Vince is prepared to compensate the Supporter's Club for that loss?

There’s only 1 game this weekend Rovers v Swindon.

The rest of you tinpotters sort yourself out and let us fallen pygmies get on with it.
