Anybody with the opinion that this is not our problem to sort needs to take a look back to when we first helped to invade Iraq.

We won't send troops into Syria, no doubt about that.

Not sure about that, Red. It's accepting more at the moment, certainly and there are certainly a lot of people fighting for their rights. However, Germany also has a vicious right-wing which is attacking Asylum Seekers and burning their shelters down. Germany has a long history of anti-immigration (not even including the fact Germany organised the mass murder of millions of people it considered alien), just look at the way they treat the Turkish diaspora, refusing many of them the right to be German citizens.

Yeah, I've read a few books on neo Nazism in Europe and they conveyed that it never totally died out in Germany. I remember reading about a band playing a song called Rostock barbecue about a building containing Turks that was set alight resulting in deaths.

In terms of this though I mean I think a greater percentage of Germans would be more welcoming.

^ that was something we were discussing in work today actually.

Quite shocked that the likes of Qatar, who are fantastically wealthy are doing nothing.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are two of the top 10 countries in terms of aid given to Syria.

Both countries are reprehensible enough that we don't need to be twisting/selecting facts to push our own agendas. They already provide enough legitimate material to shit on them with, but aid to Syria isn't really a stick to beat them with. The UK has taken a similar approach with providing more aid rather than taking in refugees, a lot of Syrians would rather stay in the Arabic world/Turkey rather than come to Europe but these countries, especially Jordan/Lebanon, need the money to build infrastructure to house millions of Syrians.

You can even go back to Sykes-Picot agreement to see that the UK/France fucked over the whole region from the start. Iraq and Syria are a case of 'too many cooks In the kitchen', and amalgamation of ethnic/religious groups which should never have been unified under one banner in states defined by arbitrary lines in the sand.

It's worth pointing out that the Gulf also has far wider demographic issues than Europe, most of them have far larger foreign national populations than "native". This already causes problems, even for the people going their voluntarily let alone refugees.

It is worth pointing out that the aid figure from UAE and Saudi Arabia also includes their efforts to indoctrinate more and more people in line with their medieval beliefs.

In the 1990s there were massive anti-immigrant riots.

I think he was referring to before, during and after Nazism. It did exist either side of Nazism but whether or not that was to a greater degree than in other countries I don't know.

Devastating argument.

  1. Your cartoon implies that by focusing on so called victims of "migration", we are committing some kind of injustice for victims of terrorism. They are one and the fucking same. The kid who died, was from Kobane, his family were from Kobane and had 11 members of his family killed by IS terrorists. They are victims of terrorism. Victims of terror, victims of forced migration, one and the same.
  2. This renewed emphasis on refugees is resulting in more and more help for the victims of terror. There is more money being donated, and more of them are being given help. The cartoon suggests that the international media is ignoring them, but that is exactly the opposite of what is happening.

I have no problem in allowing refugees to settle here - but I wonder how many will located to Chipping Norton and places of that ilk.

That's better.

1. They're not one in the same. The minority that have the means to leave Syria do not deserve the same coverage or the same concern that the people on the ground in Syria do, especially those that are actually fighting a civil war. It's also not remotely true that all of these migrants are Syrian refugees, or even refugees at all.

2. Does the second point assume the first is true, or has there been increased donations direct to Syria too? That would be a positive at least, but no doubt a happy accident more than anything.

There have been increased donations to both.

Your cartoon features the iconic image of the dead kid on the beach, who was a Syrian refugee.

He doesn't understand they're one and the same. He thinks they all want to come here and he doesn't like that. He can't help himself. As I said before Eg you know the square root of fuck all the lives of these people. You think that father risked his child's life just to get benefits in another country? Don't be such a fucking cretin.

I am very interested in German history, far beyond that era. I'm not saying Britain is better, but to say Germany is some paragon of treatment of foreigners is completely wrong, as I said, they treat the Turkish disaspora like scum in general and their far-right is far more violent and popular than here.

Can't help but feeling but Germany's welcoming of them is more to make up for their rather chequered past!

My newsfeed is so clogged up of people (mainly one person who I cant remove thanks to family shit) sharing that rubbish atm. I would block/hide their stuff but at the same time I'm intrigued about just how much lower they can go.
If you do Twitter blade have a look at edl news . It's a anti fascist organisation and a good place to spot the pond life on Twitter .
