Look at the squad list, you'd make an impact yourself when injuries hit around christmas time.

They've just let Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah leave. Now they're going to pay through the nose for Drinkwater. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Don't Chelsea have 300+ players on their books? How is their squad so small?

Conte and Chelsea after Danny Drinkwater. Seems a little random, obviously he had such a good season before last, but will he make an impact on that squad?
Having seen Fabregas against Arsenal I'd imagine DD will stroll into the first 11. Initially anyway. He's more Contes tempo.

Fosu-Mensah is having a medical ahead of a season-long loan to Palace.

I'd rather have kept him as backup to Valencia as well as a midfield option for cup games and sub appearances.

Good luck to him, I hope he impresses.

From Saturday, we've got 5 games in 15 days. I wouldn't expect Lovren or Matip to play more than 3 out of the 5, which means we're going to be relying on Klavan and/or Gomez to play at least 2. The jury is still out on Gomez but Klavan clearly isn't at a level that meets with our aspirations of a title challenge and CL run.

Though there is still time, it doesn't look as though the VVD transfer is going to happen and we aren't being linked with anyone else. You've really got to question what Sakho did to piss Klopp off so badly and whether he needs to take a step back and look at what (very likely) injuries to Matip or Lovren makes our team look like. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing Milner play CB before Christmas.

The Lallana injury also makes our midfield a worry. And thats without taking into account Henderson's injury record, Can's unsigned contract and Barca's inevitable approach for Coutinho.

I thought Klopp's approach of "these are my targets and I don't want anyone else" was really ballsy 6 weeks ago. If we go into the coming season with what we have, I fear its going to look really foolish.

He probably wouldn't last in the first 11, he gives the ball away too much attempting final balls to satisfy a team like Chelsea. But in terms of tackling and his telepathic relationship with Kante, he'll be a much better option than most people with give him credit for. Fabregas can't play at the pace Conte requires for a midfield pairing, Kante will have so much more defensive work to do with Cesc than DD, in a midfield 3 thats not a problem, but in a pair Fabregas isn't mobile enough. DD is probably our fittest player. He's a machine. A drinks machine WAHEY!!!1!!1, .... no.
Would be a good squad addition anyway.

Indeed. The squad as it is isn't good enough to challenge for major silverware. I hope the playing down on VVD is just a ploy to keep the price reasonable when talks open, because if it's not and we end up playing the season with only that defense again, then it'll be another 50+ goals conceded, and there will still be games where Burnley away will happen and we'll be overwhelmed. Think we'll struggle for top four if it stays like this without further additions.

Can't believe Man City aren't interested. Liverpool will go for Hoedt at Lazio cos hes a cheap option.
I don't really know why Liverpool are holding onto Sakho. Evidently Klopp doesn't want him, Palace do but Liverpool want an ott fee for him.

Not sure why he's a cnut. Southampton have received offers from clubs in the CL and he wants to play for such clubs, handing in a transfer request appears to be a last resort. If Barcelona come in with a £100m bid for Coutinho and he makes it clear he wants to go there, I for one won't want to hold onto a player who doesn't want to stay and I'll wish him well. I've been like that with all the Liverpool players in the past, including Owen, Torres and Alonso, despite not wanting any of them to leave. Sounds like the very idea of a player wanting to better himself makes him a cnut in your eyes.

The only player I didn't wish well was Sterling, because I believed he was moving for money and nothing else because I wrongly thought he wouldn't get in the City team.

I think it's fair to say though that anyone with aspirations to join Liverpool must have a touch of the cnut about them. We can agree on that Pags.

We're going to get into the Lovren/Lallana vs Clyne/Lambert argument about handling interest from larger clubs again I feel.

However, for the details we all know VvD held meetings with Klopp in Blackpool despite still being contracted to Southampton until 2022 and being the club's captain. He then waited five days days before the season started to hand in his transfer request at the club, and as I mentioned finally giving up his loyalty bonus, despite the whole Liverpool apology saga being dealt with at the beginning of the summer.

Just weird timing to be handing in a transfer request if he's known he's always wanted to challenge at the top, right?

If this summer is anything to go by Liverpool will be sending unsolicited contract details via carrier pigeon, Chelsea will be twiddling their thumbs and City will be planning yet another world record fee for a defender.

£30 mill is hardly ott for a quality defender, which Sakho is.

Just read VvD's statement. Playing the victim and talking utter shite.

Hope Saints mentality is the same as the fans. Anyone but Liverpool. If he wants Champions League football then he won't sign for Liverpool while Chelsea are interested.

Is the hatred for Liverpool down to the number of players signed over the last few seasons rather than the "tapping up"? Understandable if so.

Mainly down to the behaviour of Lallana, Lovren and now VvD to get moves there.

Depends if he's interested in playing more than a bit part role whilst in the Champions League I would guess. If he's fit for Liverpool, he plays. He can't say that with Chelsea, and for some players that makes a big difference.

Finally our young Brazilian striker has been officially signed.

Been training with us for a while so might even get a game on Saturday which could be useful - not expecting much against Liverpool but certainly in future games we will need a pacey outlet up front.

Klopp rumoured to be point blank refusing to give any form of approval for Coutinho being sold to Barcelona. If it happens despite that you have to wonder what effect it will have on his relationship with Henry and co.

Also, if FSG are happy to sell Coutinho despite our rather pathetic lack of transfer activity, you have to wonder if they're giving up on their ambitions for the club and intend to sell in the near future.

Funny, was listening to Koptalk the other day and in between the ramblings, the guy there said that Amanda Stevely could be looking once again for buyers for Liverpool since she and her investors have twice in the past tried to buy them.

If FSG let Coutinho go, then yep, they are looking to get out soon, as no owners with ambition let their best players go without replacement's already in place, and with the season about to start this week.
