Halo 5 Guardians.

Last day of the BETA today... then a huge wait until the real thing comes out. It's been superb.

Even as someone who doesn't usually like Halo,
I can appreciate that from what i've seen it looks decent.
Looks to have solid gameplay (i only been watching videos of Hutch)

Yeah, it's quite different from the other Halo games. Still feels like Halo at the core of it... but it's just so damned fast. It's faster than COD, whereas Halo used to be relatively quite slow before. So much emphasis on teamwork as well. If you go off on your own you're likely to be mugged by about 3 other guys.

Yeah that's what I saw in the vids i watched, seemed cool.
From what I saw as well, the powerful weapons like the sword and sniper are rare, and teams have to battle it out to get them, or was that just a particular game mode?

Yeah, that's very much the case. Games are all about controlling the power weapons and thus controlling the map... Halo has always had that element to it, but it's doing it better than ever on 5 it seems.

Arkham Knight is the game i'm most looking forward to in what feels a long time. Not particularly a massive batman fan, but rocksteady's previous Arkham games were brilliant and I can't wait to see what they can come up with on the current gen.

Halo 5, Battlefront 3 and The Division.

I'll get Atilla if it actually works, Creative Assmebley have been shocking for a while now with their games though, there's a reason my top 2 Total War's for hours played are Rome and Medieval 2, games which are a around decade old. They work and they're good.

Shogun 2 was easily one of the best Total Wars, to be honest the only one I ever had major launch problems with was Empire. Then again, maybe I am long in the tooth having played it since STW, I am just so used to the baffling diplomacy of the AI etc at this point. Atilla seems to be getting praise from the bigger TW you tubers who got the beta mind.

I liked Shogun 2, it just felt quite bland, it missed the character of the older games - something just felt off. Rome 2 is playable, but is so feature stripped and also has combat with much left to be desired. I think the main downside to modern TW games is the Warscape engine, it was built for gunpowder battles, and now they have been trying to force and mould it into a sword and shield combat engine like the original and it just falls flat on it's face with problems.

Thing with Shoggy is the setting is pretty key, it's all about similar armies with minor differences to swing battles one way or another, if you like the period it is a bonus too, but in a way the lack of specialisation helped the AI because it had you on similar ground strength wise at least if not tactically.

RTWII is pretty good I think, the battles are decent enough, seems to be the same old TW formula mind so perhaps I am just dulled to the minor differences at this point, as I say I am completely used to stupid diplomacy (which is daft at this point when you look at how easy the Paradox games model it that TW hasn't used that system by now), odd tactical choices and "mega stacks of doom".

My problem is that "decent enough" battles isn't good enough. Total War is about the battles, the campaign map stuff is done better in Paradox games. But the key part of Total War, the battles, is destroyed by an incapable Warscape engine that just don't perform in neither the actual battle nor just creating an atmosphere and a fluid and intense battle to watch.

I think this video sums up what I think of Rome 2 perfectley, Total War has declined so hard and CA don't seem to be able to make good ones anymore. Shogun 2 was great, but not on the Medieval 2 or Rome 1 levels of good.

It's weird but... I never really liked the first Rome, in fact I wasn't too thrilled when I heard a second one was going to be made. The suicide generals into phalanxes and other problems made it a massive disappointment for me, I'd say from a community perspective it was the most hyped TW of all due to the jump from 2D to 3D which probably amplified my disappointment with it. It's probably the TW I have played the least by far. MTW2 was a brilliant game, incredibly moddable which saw so many great projects (Broken Crescent, Third Age etc), my preference for Shoggy is probably because of nostalgia, but it was a very stable release and played smoothly, even the expansions were relatively problem free.

I don't think it's a lack of ability, RTWII is easily up there now we're on the Emperor Edition, ever since the SEGA purchase releases have become a little rushed and that is certainly a publisher issue more so than a developer one, you get the impression that if they added 6 months to the release date we'd get polished products from the off.

Oh yeah, that looks cool. Hope it comes to consoles. And that it doesn't suck.

27th of March I'll be getting a Football RPG where you travel through time with a robotic bear and play football with King Arthur and Joan of Arc because someone else went back in time and wiped out your football club.
