I never trust the odds this early in the season. What are we, 4th or 5th favourites despite having no manager and a bunch of useless players? I know League 2 has its moments but I'm willing to bet that in our current state we aren't more likely to win the title than 17 other teams.

Wrexham imo is perfectly reasonable, they've got a good squad already and have shown they're happy to spend plenty.

I wonder if they put promoted teams on lower odds because it'll be a popular bet for them to go up again, be interesting to see if it's still the case by the start of the season.

If Wrexham get their defence sorted they will have a chance, But at the moment no.

I definitley think they'll both be up there, they'll both need a little fine tuning but they have nothing to be afraid of. Wouldn't surprise me at all if both were in the top 3/7 come next May.

In fairness when we won the conference it had luton in it who didn’t even make the playoffs.

According to their fans they’re the biggest club in the world, so to win a league when the worlds biggest club in the world didn’t make the playoffs speaks volumes

And that’s when the playoffs were proper and you didn’t just have 1 home game against some mystery side like bromley before you got to wembley.

What do we need to sort about the defence? I doubt we'll be buying any new centre backs or wingbacks.

Do you still have to go through someone's living room to get into Luton's ground?

We did last time we went, very “interesting” ground/area.

I can forsee Tozer being torn a new one quite regularly. Also, not really fair to call your wide men wingbacks is it? Barnett and Forde are proper wingers, Mendy is a bit more defensive but is far better at the top end of the pitch for me. Playing with so little cover in wide areas is just asking for trouble.

If you think Wrexham’s defence is questionable and wing backs wildly attacking then you are going to enjoy us.

Wrexham are definitely going straight through this league, if by January they’re not top 3 they will just chuck a load more dosh at it until they get there.
Notts are a bit harder to call for me because they’re obviously a great side to amass that many points but each time I’ve seen them they have been shite but I know they are of course not normally like that.
Right now I’d go Wrexham top 3, Notts top 10 with a chance of higher.

Tbh jacob i think if anything will hobble you early on it’ll be the pace of the game, stockport took a while to adjust but once they did they were fine. We were crap for long periods of last season and still nearly made the playoffs.

Both of you are going to suffer with the same problem Dorking had coming into the National League last season. A 3 man central defence with wing backs who are basically wingers will absolutely leak goals, and it's just a case of whether you'll score enough to outweigh that, or be sensible and play proper defenders in defensive positions. Either that or sign a really top end defensive trio, which is also a possibility for Wrexham.

I wouldn’t be that surprised to see us move to four at the back to be honest, it was supposed to be Williams’ favoured system when he came here but he decided just to tweak what we’d been playing for a couple of years. He did try it on a couple of occasions last season with no great success, but could see it being an option with a summer to work on it.

Would have been easier to have just said top 10

We've a way better team than we got relegated with before we make any signings. Think we'll bring five or so in.
Even so being second favourites is daft.

I suspect Luke Williams may be more flexible than people think. He has experience at this and higher levels and we may end up as a 4132 or some combination of a back four to start with.

Welcome back. Your record was unreal and you deserved it. As is usually the case sides come up much healthier off the field than when they go down, and this is certainly the case here.

You know you miss the scruffy dog really  :P1:

Bet you can’t wait for another trip down the a60 for no points

Does nothing for my fan credentials but I genuinely have no idea the last time we won at your place, I guess it’s not in the last 10 years.

Regarding the odds, if Skybet is starting a book in May it doesn’t seem unreasonable that the two teams who’ve broken every galactic football record going are the early favourites for the following season.

Luke Williams may be, but the squad of players you have is so absolutely suited to the system you've used this season that playing another way could be massively to your detriment. Totally lose the attacking threat of the wing-backs (in the way you use them) if you revert them to full-backs for a start, which is a major part of the way you play.

It was Aug 2005 when you won 3-2

It'd be a massively different system certainly. The wing backs (imo) aren't necessarily the focus of the system but are naturally the players who get the best opportunities because defences are focused on Langstaff and Rodrigues.

I think there'll be four or five different players starting next season and wouldn't be surprised to see us add some height and physicality.
We're back to transfer windows so I think we'll run a bigger squad with more options.

Eh?

I reckon they'll both be automatic or play-offs at worst.
I got what you mean - was making an unfunny joke as the way you wrote 3/7 read like a fraction. Top 3/7 would be top 10
