Just checked and you have to go back to the early to mid 70s to find the last time Villa were outside the top flight for more than a single season. I strongly suspect that is about the change. There is no way in hell I can see them coming back up within the next couple of seasons given the ridiculous turmoil they're currently in. Namely an owner that doesn't want them and who won't invest to get them back up, and managerless. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up doing a Wigan and go down to the 2nd division.

Hearing Moyes might want the managers job too. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse.
and with that post get your money on a return in 2017

We'll be in League One without a new owner before the beginning of next season, no doubt about it.

Hang on, there could be something positive out of this...

It is with regret that Aston Villa Football Club today announces the resignations of Mervyn King and David Bernstein as directors of the Club.

The Club would like to thank both for all their efforts throughout their short time as members of the Board.

A search to appoint a new manager remains a priority.

The Chairman, Steve Hollis, is currently engaged in extensive negotiations in relation to the sale of the Club.

Brian Little will continue to advise the Chairman on all football related matters.

Gabby swans off to fat camp and it all goes to fuck while he is away.

Coincidence?

I remember Eric Black saying after the Man U game that the club could implode or something similar, and here we are. fucked to the core

Is it really a surprise any more? The more I see of Black, the more I like him to be honest, don't want him to get the job, but he seems a decent bloke and seems to know what he's on about.

The Championship is a bear pit of a league, Villa need to get themselves sorted ASAP to steady the ship otherwise they'll be heading to league one.

Unless the apparent discussions with a potential buyer go somewhere, we're fucked mate. We genuinely are heading that way unless things get sorted within the next two months or so.

Yeah you are right this is a crucial period for you in the coming preseason otherwise things may get even worse before they get better.

I think the implication was that it would be someone akin to him. Especially seeing as he still owns Small Heath Alliance FC...

Isn't he in jail?

Surely he's not on the list of people allowed to own football clubs either..?

Wait... he still owns them? Jesus Christ, how has that been allowed to happen?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Only just seen that Bernstein has resigned. That's a real fucker for Villa. I thought he was going to be instrumental to them.

Something has clearly gone on with Lerner in the last couple of days. Now they've gone down he needs to accept the money he wanted for them isn't going to happen, he needs to cut his losses and sell the club for a nominal amount. He clearly has no interest in the club any more, and hasn't for years.

Lerner has come out and taken responsibility for the current state of the club and the relegation. Good job he's here to tell us this, we wouldn't have known otherwise.

‘I write to Villa supporters to make clear that this relegation lies at my feet and no one else’s.’ I assume the original draft of this sincere piece also made clear to Villa fans that the Earth is round, the sky is blue, and Bosko Balaban won’t be making into the all time Villa XI.

Johnnytodd won't like that.
