Stockport going down the route we went down with Steve Holland in the late 2000s I see.

Seen many an example of excellent coaches being shit managers. Holland is arguably one of the finest coaches in the country, if not the best. Yet as a manager, he was totally clueless. Appointing Rusk is a massive risk and I feel for Jimmy Gannon. Seems to have fallen victim to a "jobs for the boys" setup. Also, give he's associated with Brighton, I can see a lot of tippy tappy football to nowhere being implemented if he's anything like Graham Potter.

You only have to look at how useless it's happened in recent times too, that Ben Garner at Bristol Rovers being a prime example of that. Took a club from 4th in L1 and it absolutely plummeted.

We had the same at Barnet with Mark Robson a few years back. Very highly qualified coach who had worked for the FA coaching England youngsters but just completely lacked any nous and was naive about what was needed to win games in the lower leagues.

Also look at how Weymouth have done this season under Brian Stock.

There’s a reason players play at this level and not higher it’s because their actually crap at tippy tappy football, you only have to look at who’s top and see the way they play with balls into channels and go from there, out from the back type football at this level is a disaster waiting to happen. Good luck.

Looks like its all but confirmed.

Horrible sense of deja vu. We've been here so many times; if there is one constant it appears we are destined to always be a basket case club and financial backing will never change that. We've sacked a club legend for no real reason and appointed arguably our least experienced manager in decades.

Apparently around 3 to 4 backroom staff (picked on behalf of Rusk by our DoF) to come in with him too. The club is going to be very toxic to be around if he doesn't hit the ground running or the appointment fails.

Let’s hope for your sakes that he is a better manager than he was a player.

I agree with you all on the quality of this appointment, shocking really. It's chalk and cheese developing PL youngsters to play chess football where the results don't matter to getting hairy arsed Conference lads who are all late 20's to get results on shit pitches against the cloggers of the division (which is all of you bar maybe Notts- no offence boys and girls)

And to rub salt in, we've sacked a club legend who had us in 4th to do it all.

It is gutting. I've not spoke to one County fan yet that is for it. He won't get much time here. Some want him out before he's stepped foot in the building and I don't blame them.

Can’t wait for us to try and play tippy tappy football and a Jon Parkin 2.0 player to give a nice boot to the ankle to remind them just what division they’re in and not to take the piss!

I think the best part of this appointment is that I don’t think we even have a player in our squad younger than 23 and were appointing a *checks notes* youth manager.

Sounds like when we brought Mike Newell in to be assistant to Bryan Hughes, then he was sexist to someone in the club (ALLEGEDLY) and got binned off within 2 months. that or he was genuinely confused that he thought he was the manager and it finally twigged he wasnt

Anyone know what Mark McGhee is like then? Seems he is the #2.

Deeply dislikable, arrogant, narcissist, who has caused total carnage at every club he's managed for the last 15 years.

The last time I saw him interviewed he was still whining about being sacked by Wolves over 20 years ago. Cannot accept fault, lashes out and throws a tantrum when things inevitably go wrong due to his incompetence.

It says everything that when Graham Westley replaced him, Westley felt like a breath of fresh air, despite being hated by our fans from day 1 due to his Stevenage connections and having his own track record of being an arrogant troublemaker himself.

Also, it says that Rusk specifically requested McGhee. It could be that Rusk is judging McGhee on his time as Brighton manager, but that was nearly 20 years ago and suggests Rusk is letting fan bias set in and that he doesn't have many contacts in the game.

I know that McGhee lives near Brighton so the other alternative could be that Rusk has worked with McGhee before and actually likes him, which is probably even more worrying for Stockport fans.

Either way this is batshit and won't end well. I wonder what Gannon did?

Mike Newell was Graham Barrows assistant (two dinosaurs for the price of one)

We thought it would be a good idea to have a part time semi retired Brian Flynn as Bryan Hughes assistant.

He hasn’t done anything. Our DoF just wants to bring his person in. they’ve been plotting this since before Christmas.

We brought in George Mulhall in 1997, to help stop us falling through the bottom of the Conference. He was a legend at the club, having pulled off a miracle escape from relegation to Division 4 in 1973. He pulled off another miracle in taking us back into the Football League in 1998. The next thing we did was bring in a new director and appoint him chairman. The same chairman who'd taken us OUT of the Football League in 1993. The first thing he did? Move George "upstairs", after which George was never heard of again in any official capacity at the club. Ten games from the end of the next season he sacked Keiron O' Regan while we were in 8th place, "because we had no chance of being promoted" and later on put his son-in-law in charge and was only stopped from making it a permanent appointment because he knew the supporters were about ready to lynch the both of them by then.

Like I've said previously, none of this is an accident, the truth is, clubs like ours are shit, it's in our DNA, this compulsion to blow our own fucking feet off. It was, and will ever be thus. :ds:

McGhee must be about 75 by now.

It definitely stinks of Mike Newell joining us as assistant, will end in tears.

Looks like Ashley Williams is joining the staff aswell. And we're deciding to keep on Jim's assistant manager. We've appointed loads of coaches, scouts etc in the last 12 months. Our backroom staff will be huge.

Don't see what direction we're going in really. This Rusk won't be given much leeway from supporters. He's lucky there's no fans in really, which may give him a chance to get his feet under the table.

I think it might have been different if the fans were in the stadium. I have no doubt they’ve probably chosen this moment knowing they won’t have a better opportunity before the fans are back.

Agree though, if fans were allowed in there would probably be a few thousand County fans singing Gannon’s name on his first match in charge. He won’t be afforded much time to hit the ground running.

I’d go as far to say Wilson as DoF of the club should be out on his arse by the end of the season if we do worse than we did under Gannon. The amount of money he has spaffed up the wall on orchestrating the sacking, bringing in a frankly ridiculous amount of coaches/non playing staff is crazy.

Not even worth bothering to learn this bloke's name, is it. As for McGhee, christ on a bike, has he been in charge anywhere that didn't end up with him being sacked? And he's supposed to help, is he?

And we gave up a 51.1% winning record, consistent improvement every season & a history of promotions... for that? Fuck off.

Hello darkness, my old friend.

You should have given McGhee a three and a half week contract.

Christ Stockport you’ve ballsed that up. No idea on the other two but McGhee is an arrogant, condescending prick who will alienate your squad and your fanbase. Im not quite sure how he’s twisted you into giving him an interview let alone a contract.

He really is a proper toad of a man who no one deserves associated to their football team.
