Honestly, he'd be a good appointment. Would definitely stop you conceding. I'd question how he'd get you better attacking wise but if you keep Rhead next year, you'll be definitely be challenging.

I doubt Rhead will go. 32 years old, market value dwindling with age, unless Paul Cox has maintained his erection for him.

A Lincoln fan I'm currently working with is very underwhelmed by it, I said I thought it was a good appointment but he disagrees and says Lincoln's last few managers have been shit and he doesn't see anything different here.

Potentially a great appointment. Vulture-esque behaviour from the Lincoln board, but probably the most ambitious thing they have done in years. Could be good for Cowley too, going from one of the smallest budgets to a mid-size budget instead of one of the bigger ones.

I'm not entirely convinced it'll work personally.

He's coming from a side he's comfortable with, in a part time environment. For all the credit he's due at Braintree, they were very one dimensional and I think thrived on sides underestimating them. He won't get that luxury at Lincoln, when the pressure was on, on Sunday he didn't have a single answer and Hurst of all people had his pants down.

He could go well, he's done very well this season. I just question his adaptability.

I think you could well be right, Pontoonlow.
The main thing about Cowley is that he has only ever worked in Essex and mainly way below this level. He knows the Essex non league scene very well and has pretty much only every recruited locally, so it will be interesting to see how he does outside of little Essex...
He's also a school teacher, so will assumably be giving up his job to work full time at Lincoln.
I see this as being a potential disaster and he could end up leaving before his contract is up, to head back home.
His assistant manager is his brother, who will likely need to give up his FT job to follow him to Lincoln.
A big decision for both of them, which wont make them cheap appointments..

seems a bit of a similar situation to us with Wilkin. Except for we got Wilkin with a handful of games left and Nuneaton fell out of play-offs where as Cowley stayed at Braintree and finished in play-offs.

Interested to see how Lincoln do next season.

I think he applied for the job some weeks ago, rather than the club approaching him immediately after Sunday's game.

If appointed I think the only issue will be how he takes to full time coaching/management. I actually disagree there would be pressure, I mean what are the genuine expectations at Lincoln? They have been the epitome of mediocre in the conference, if Cowley had them challenging for the playoffs it would surely be a success whether they finished in the top 5 or not.
The Imps will be hoping it goes a lot better than the last manager they appointed who had only worked in Essex!

Can't see why Cowley would want to go to Panty Waists Lincoln. Still, fair play to them for trying. Richard Hill seems more appropriate.

Reckon the key difference between Cowley and Tilson is that the former is hungry for success. Tilson had already peaked by the time he turned up here.

Love that username, though wrist bandage may have been more appropriate!

Don't get me wrong, Tilson ended up being terrible, but I still stand by the fact he had incredibly bad luck as well re loanees/other decisions - people seem to forget that the fans were praising him as a Messiah mid March that season.

Not a more passionate, hard working bloke out there. People who think he will fail are just naive. He hasn't had a bad season since he started in management there is quite nothing to suggest he will fail when he goes full time allowing him more time to work on the pitch. The sky is the limit for him right now. No surprise 4 clubs said to be interested a day after Braintree's season ended. I would take him at Southend

I'm not sure that they do have one of the smallest budgets. I wonder if they have a small budget in the same way that Burr did at Kiddy - they managed to imply it and everyone latched on and nobody corrected the misconception.

That said in this league it's a massive achievement even to get the best part-time team to the playoffs, so he's got some potential. It might also be the case that he's been able to motivate his players by billing them as underdogs (quite rightly too, however much they are paid it's certainly a common opinion), he won't be able to use that trick at Lincoln, a club who have been underachieving in the conference for years.

Overall I think it's a suitable appointment, not fantastic or terrible, with the potential to go either way. Every manager has baggage as has been covered on here before, and Cowley's lack of full-time experience trumps getting in someone from below with the same and a lack of experience at conference level, or someone tried and failed elsewhere. Probably one of the best appointments that could be made at this stage and yet nothing to get over-excited about at the same time.

Why couldn't you see Cowley at Lincoln?

Enjoys working as a PE teacher which fits in with being part-time at Braintree. Interesting to see that CrazyImp says that you lot have "tried everything else", apart from, of course, not playing hoofball. Cowley would just be a slightly better version of hoofball that you currently have.

Played for him

Were you good at hoofing it then?

Cowley wants to become full time doesn't he, he would be a very good fit at Lincoln IMO.

Have to say I was sceptical of this at first, but after giving it some thought, I can only see this as a smart move by Cowley. Expectations at Lincoln aren't that high, so unless they throw money at it and increase the playing budget considerably, then something like an 8th place finish will be seen as an improvement and a job well done.

Cowley's only being cautious, and I can't say I blame him. I'm sure he'll do a good job with the resources he'll have at his disposal at Lincoln, perhaps even make the po's, but if he doesn't then the chance of damaging his reputation is very slim indeed.

First thing I thought of when reading this was Wilkin and that initially it looks a great coup. But....it's fine getting a small club to punch above their weight where there's no pressure or real expectation to do well. Different kettle of fish when put in charge of a proper club, a proper full time club with 3000-4000 supporters on your case who demand success. He's got to be able to lose that small-time mentality and adapt to a far bigger club and the expectations of it.
