I think the way we breezed up last season may have given some people false expectations TBH Lee. That plus the fact we massively cocked up our recruitment (or the lack of it) in the summer. That could be the fault of the Manager / DoF or it could be the board. We all have our theories. Bidding huge fees for Gayle and Grey were great for the media but they were never going to happen and we are woefully short in some positions.
While we were absolutely battered at your place, we have been competitive in virtually all our games. Yesterday was typical, we absolutely pummeled Charlton and had 20 (I think) goal attempts but only 2 were on target. We just can't finish!
Our owner has said he will back the Manager in January, some think that should be Cotterill, some don't but the crux of it is that we massively fucked up during the summer and our present position will only make decent recruitment harder.
Relegation, with the new stadium and the finances it releases, would be a total disaster and we can only hope we scrape to safety somehow. The owner has said, we will have the financial muscle to compete at the top end of the Championship post rebuild but it's definitely a very, very disappointing first half of the season for us.
All that said, this Championship lark is hard, really a lot harder than it was when we were last relegated. It's a really noticeable difference!

It's a tough division because the prize for escaping is sooooo great.

It's odd becuase in past seasons there has been a 'bounce' effect where a big club ( Bristol City are one ) from the third tier hitting the 2nd tier has propelled them into the prem or the upper echelons of the championship ... So yeah some mistakes must have been made .

I think (hope) you'll stay up CU and then go on to build a promotion push in the next seasons ....

Thank you and I hope you're right, obviously. We need a BIG January, that's for sure. A few daft rumours floating about but we'll wait and see who's coming in.

I was there FP, every painful step of the way, including our potentiallly 'last ever' game before we went bust. I will never forget those days nor the days in the top flight that preceded them. Glory followed by outright pain yet the supporters stuck with them.
It's why I have a real problem with the club not doing enough for the Ashton Gate 8, players that tore up lucrative contracts to save the club in those dark days in 1982. That's a totally different issue though.
The fans stuck with them did they?
Your average gate dropped from around 21,000 to about 4,700!

I was one of the 4,700 FP. I couldn't do more than that could I? I was only 14. Once the support knew the club were in trouble, we did our bit.

Is the Rotherham fan really celebrating because they're above Bristol City?
Not cos we're above em I'm firmly aware how toss we are, purely as they're in the relegation fight and they were all ever so sure they wouldn't be.

Fair dues, I was certain all the teams coming up would be in the mix, our summer business was piss poor.

Can't have been worse than pissing millions away on a overhyped french second division striker.

You had makings of a championship side for last few years, just bottled it when it's mattered.

I think many anticipated our current perilous state after our summer transfer business.

Would have been another bottle job last year as well if it wasn't for Beckford.

That's bollocks, have a look at the thread Jordan just linked. BCFC David had us 24th. Jordan 19th. Me 23rd. Luke_Ciderhead 16th. Heisenberg said certain relegation. Hodge 21st. In fact the highest any of our fans said we'd finish was Ciderhead with 12th.

On a sidenote, MK Dons fans who were whacking one off over signing those Real Madrid youngsters in the summer, how are they getting on?

Sorry mate, missed you out! Only further backs up my point though.

I think the most any of our fans got to his claimed "dogs abuse" was someone saying we could surprise a few.

If it wasn't for him I'd hate to think where we'd be now.

Anyway - we signed Kodjia for £2m, he's level on goals with Afobe, Rhodes and Hernandez, the first 2 had £12m and £14m turned down for them in the summer, and the latter signed for £10m the summer before last.

Not sure where that leaves Kodjia, but considering he's playing in significantly worse sides than those 3, I wouldn't expect to see him go for owt less than £10m.
