One year after signing a five year contract at Everton barely into his twenties. John Stones actually believes he’s outgrown Everton.

Chelsea have played the snidest of games with the willingness of the media and that should never be forgotten. This is how modern footie is though. It’s like patting little Everton on the head.

Let him rot, I still wouldn’t sell him. Too much water under the bridge now to sell to that shower. Even if that means he’s dropped from the team for a bit. Show your metal Everton !

Maybe i'm deluded but what a c***.

Why is he a c**t for wanting to play at the highest level he can?

Why would you let him rot and miss out on £40m?

That's not being deluded, it's called being stupid.

I never understand why small clubs get so pissy about players leaving to join the top sides. It's something to be proud of and allows you to reinvest into the squad or the actual infastructure of the club. Everton will coup a big profit and have shown themselves capable of developing players into £30m assets.

Bony is a fine example. He joined us not because he had a long held dream of playing for the Swans, but because he wanted to highlight he could excel in the PL as the big clubs weren't prepared to take a punt as he'd only scored in the Dutch league. He came in, worked like a trojan, signed a contract extention within his first year, which meant we could command a bigger fee for him and we subsequently sell him on for £30m plus. That money went into our new training ground & academy which will serve us for years and should help us with the long term aspiration of 'moving to the next level'

Can you elaborate as to what 'game' you're referring to here. Do you mean that nasty snidy game of a team making an offer for a player they want? Yes, Chelsea made offers, which Everton publicly stated they had turned down. Perhaps I don't know the full story here, and I'm certainly no fan of Chelsea, but I'm unsure what you're talking about. Did they contact him directly and tap him up ala Ashley Cole?

Agreed. Look at Sterling. Liverpool might be a bigger club than City in terms of global recognition and history, but only an idiot would claim we're in a better position moving forward given their ludicrous bank balance and willingness to spunk stupid amounts up the wall to get what they want with little to no thought. He got his move, City got the quality English player they wanted and Liverpool got £50m in the bank. I didn't want to lose him initially but by the end knew he didn't want to stay and was happy with the money we got.

You have contradicted yourself a bit here i think, you say Chelsea are bigger than Everton yet we have more League titles than Chelsea and turn to history and ' football recognition ' when it involves Liverpool.

You see what i am saying? Players are just interested in money and nothing else.

Everton have more titles than Chelsea , they have more money yes and therefore bigger, i'm talking about the player not the clubs.

Plenty of clubs come out with comments like that. Skip forward a few weeks and quite often the player has in fact, been sold.

Clubs quite often say a player isn't for sale for no other reason than to bump the price up. If you think it should stop a team making increased bids you're being a little naive.

I don't rank clubs on any one thing. It's obviously a variety of things, and it also depends on how far you go back. Historically, Everton are a big club. But football isn't played in history. It's played in the here and now. And in the here and now, Everton are a midtable side.

like 99% of all other clubs who have not won the league for say 25 years?

Let's have it right, Everton have also decided to put this into the public domain too, obviously with the tac of upping the transfer fee.

If you need me to explain why Liverpool are a bigger club than Everton then you're more deluded than I thought.

ok if Everton are a midtable side please define Spurs and Liverpool, that way i can see how you came to the conclusion maybe

As you ask, how many times have Liverpool finished mid table in the last 30 years, never mind lower table? Now do the same for Everton. Also, Everton have won a single trophy since 1987. Feel free to check what Liverpool have won since then.

However, I personally wouldn't describe Everton as a mid table team. More upper half perhaps. But like it or not, Chelsea are a more attractive proposition than Everton currently are. And, if it makes you feel any better, Liverpool too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Mid-table was probably a bit OTT, upper-mid-table as you point out is probably more accurate.

Yeah fucking hell let's not sell them short by forgetting the 'upper' part of it. They'll be missing out on top class players if they don't think they're upper middle!
