Seems like this crazy scheme is going ahead. Here's a link to our recent Dons Trust board meeting.

Dunno wether it's been documented elsewhere but the FL seem to have kept this rather quiet.
It would appear that we were the ONLY League 2 side to vote against this proposal. The rest of the division need to seriously look at the people who are running your clubs.
Once this is up and running the ugliness of a B league will surface it's ugly head above the parapet again.

Thin end of a fucking great big wedge that is gonna fuck over lower league teams.

No doubt bought off.

of course the idiot owners do not realize that this is just a way to put a foot in the door.

its a shame for a handful like myself, the only positive for most in Lower league is 90% of you do not give a crap about the JPT anyway.

but I expect B teams in the FL within 5 years anyway.....the premiership runs English football not the FA and certainly not the FL.

Our greedy idiot owners will have been happy to vote yes for £1.50 and all the cushy benefits of cup final tickets and corporate extras they enjoy getting.

I can understand the feeling of it being a ''slippery slope' towards 'B' teams in the league, but taken solely on it's own merits, 'B' sides playing in the JPT does have it's benefits. It would give lower league managers a chance to look at these youngsters (who let's face it, won't be in their respective first teams any time soon!) playing against genuine League 2/League 1 players in an environment where there are no points at stake. Nobody is going to get relegated/promoted because West Brom 'B' beat them in the JPT.
Obviously, there is the danger of them creeping into the league, but that would take the Football League and the Conference to vote for it and the backlash from the Football League clubs would be huge. I'm surprised Palios appears to have voted for it though.

I'd feel sorry for anyone who got to Wembley final and played against a B team who then had about 100 family and friends as their support in a 90,000 stadium

the only positive is I bet the prize money isn't half increasing for the competition, you maybe would get £250,000-£500,000 just by being in final than hoping for 50,000 fans to get that much.

Just trying to think how playing B teams regularly could work without affecting the league tables.

I suggest increasing the FL 72 to 80 and create 4 divisions of 20 instead of three of 24.

Each team plays 38 normal league games against each other then a further 10 games against the B teams. These matches will just be home games for the FL80.

It will also mean that the B teams will play 40 games. However they will just count their games in their own league table and not in the FL tables.

The FL/B team games could be mid week with Premier League subsidising entrance fees and making it free entry charge.

Everyone is a winner.
PL gets 40 away games against FL fighting for points in mid week against full gates
Conference gets 8 promotions
No away travelling in midweek for FL fans
PL clubs not in same table as FL and distorting promotions.

So what's wrong

The wording is a bit weird and the fact it has been kept so quiet makes me wonder exactly what was being voted on. "Finalise proposals" makes it sound like the clubs would still have another opportunity to reject the finished proposals, they are just willing to hear them out for the time being, rather than a final acceptance of the scheme to go ahead.

I find it really, really hard to believe that our board would sign off on this if it was the final decision without any consultation with the fans. Almost impossible to believe, actually. There was a bit of talk about this on Outlaws yesterday where it was universally agreed that it would be a disgrace if this ever did go ahead with our board's blessing. I believe someone has e-mailed our chief exec for clarification, he is usually very good at responding to fan questions so we'll hopefully find out soon.

Was just about to make a post about this as well. This seems to have gone about very hush-hush which is extremely annoying, even if there's nothing we can do about it just the principle of not being kept informed after the initial hullabaloo is quite bad if you ask me. I've heard absolutely nothing about this since it was initially announced, and the fact that this vote took place and there has been no publicity around it at all is quite concerning to me personally.

It's not even necessarily that it's going to happen in the JPT, because I don't think it's that bad an idea (Certainly a whole lot better than the initial suggestions), but some sort of consultancy would have been nice. Attendances will obviously dwindle even further if it goes ahead as expected.

So we get to play eight fewer meaningful games against teams with traditions and fans who give a shit about the result, and it their place we play 10 meaningless friendlies against a team of Premier League reserves to which no away fans will turn up and 99% of their fans won't even bother to check the result? Everyone's a winner!

It says "finalise proposals", proposals being the key word there.

Doesn't look like anything has been agreed upon, just whoever is bringing the issue to the table is in the final stages of doing so and that the board are willing to give it a hearing in a future session.

no, the points against the B teams will count in the FL tables but the PL teams will not be in the tables

I can't believe AFCW were the only one who rejected the proposal, They used to have A handful of conference clubs in it a while ago, i'd rather than that B-teams, or scrap it all together.

It was a shocking idea when they first came out with it so what's changed? All the FA give a fuck about is the Premier League. If this goes ahead then Football League fans want to be marching up Wembley way to make a protest. Do it on FA Cup final day to make it as awkward as fuck for them aswell.

I hate this idea, but it's not even a tenth as bad as what it would be if they got into the league.

At least we can just fuck this competition right off. We couldn't really do that with the league.

An interesting thing is how will it work with JPT fielding your strongest team rules. Carlisle United have been fined in the past for fielding weakened teams. Surely they can't go fining us when Premier League teams are fielding B teams in the same competition.

Personally I'll be avoiding any matches involving B teams. I hope others do the same.

I'm surprised we voted in favour of this... the JPT is generally seen as a big deal to us, so why we would want to give up any hope of winning it again just so we can play at the Etihad in front of 100 people every now and again is beyond me. But then again our MD has spoken out in favour of the League 3 proposal.

I'm totally against any suggestions that involve using Carlisle United (or any lower-league team) as human training cones for a bunch of Premier League rejects (we're already doing this for most of League 2), which this all smacks of, it's just about putting lower-league teams to work in improving the quality of Premier League teams as if we owe them something.

I don't know why people think as soon as you involve the Premier League in something its fantastic wealth will somehow trickle down.

Would clubs be allowed to register a group of fans as players and then send them out to 'rough-up' the B-team players without risking their own first team players?

The Premier League clubs would soon go right off the idea.

Are you? I'm not. Back when the proposals were put forward for putting the B teams in the league, Nixon was one of the few who seemed to be in favour of this.

Lose a promising youngster for about £60k thanks to EPPP, then get to watch him help QPR reserves put you out of the JPT the following season.

Sweet deal.

The clubs in League One and League Two should break-away from the Football League and form their own League between the League and the Conference. I'm sure the Conference would be in favour.

Sell the TV rights to Dave.

Or imagine if the wembley final was say Sunderland B vs Hull City B?

About 500 people packed in wembley. I bet the sponsors would love that for their showpiece cup final day!

If the B teams end up in the league I can see something like this happening. However I don't think it would get that far if league clubs threatened to resign from the football league over it.

I find it more amusing that a fair chunk of people think that this will improve the development of young English players.

It will be even better when Man Utd B v Liverpool B gets picked for Television coverage in the 3rd round of the Northern Setion in the JPT over something like Preston v Blackpool. Money that will make fuck all difference to United or Liverscum but might really help out teams in League One and League Two!

I'd seriously be up for a protest. It's one of the stupidest ideas, probably just a little less ridiculous than the plan to play Premier League games in Vegas, Dubai and Beijing!

I'd like to know why we were the only team in the division to vote against it at this stage.

Surely every league 1 & 2 side should be totally against this ludicrous idea.

If our forum is correct (although I know its like any other full of myths and legends as such.....but if it were true our MD fobbed off going to support his own team in a vital league game to have himself a nice cup final day at Wembley............that would say it all for me really.

our lot were open to talk about it.....probably as long as it gives them some money in the pocket and more bits and bobs

I think it's reasonable to have he idea at least debated at the board, that's all that has been agreed to by my reading of this. I think that's fair and entirely reasonable, we shouldn't dismiss things without the people who will ultimately make the descision having an actual discussion about it first.

Personally I hope it gets rejected but I think it's fair enough it at least gets debated by the people who matter, even if it's just to show how strongly those on the board object to the proposal to those presenting it.

The idea of B teams is fecking terrible anyway, can't see how it benefits anyone more than a reserve league does. Will the next foreign import playing in Manchester City's B team really give a crap about the JPT?

But another point I'll add, eventually B teams would end up entering the FL. What does that mean for clubs like us in the Conference trying to get promoted? It's difficult enough as it is, let alone with the Premier League morons stepping in.
