I was talking about this season but yes he did but then failed at the last hurdle

Mills is a very good manager and when it clicks into place we play some beautiful football, but he has a few noticeable flaws which have seen us come unstuck this season.

He's not great at recruitment (seems to have a 1 in 3, maybe 1 in 4 success rate) , pays no attention to the opposition (a Keegan like philosophy of we'll just out football them), is a slave to 4-3-3 (We've only setup differently in 1, maybe 2 matches) & seems to like to play players out of position.

The noises he's been making yesterday pre and post match all point to him staying, but this is football and you can't believe everything you hear. I hope he doesn't go as I have no idea who we'd get.

Mills, who turned down an approach early in his career at Gateshead from Forest Green, however, declined to confirm his future would be on Tyneside and added.

“I can’t say that because the chairman might say different, and you never know in football, but at this moment in time I’m here doing my job and that’s all I can say at the moment.”

The 53-year-old has been on a 12-month rolling contract since he joined Gateshead and chairman Graham Wood confirmed there has not been an official approach from Wrexham.

Wood said: “Gary has not mentioned Wrexham to me yet and there has been no official approach, so as it stands it is just speculation. If Wrexham do want to speak to him then they will need to go through the right channels.”

Something's going on. Worth a go, atleast you couldn't accuse the board of going for a "cheap option". Would be a sign of intent if we appointed him. God I hope we do.

Sadly it does look as if he is on his way. You'll get a good manager but he will infuriate you at times with the constant possession football and the lack of a plan B. His style does work well and is great to watch when the right personnel are there, if not then you will get the bore fests we have endured in the second half of this season so you will need to hope he gets his recruitment right. He has given us some good times and if he does go he will be remembered for the right reasons, I for one would wish him well.

Unlike Wilkin, who I forecasted to be an utter failure, Mills and Wrexham would be a perfect fit I feel.

Challenging again next season.

...and the silly thing is, we have someone at, or in and around the Club, who knows Gary Mills well.

From the sounds of it this one is likely. Will he manage for Gateshead last game of the season or will he be at Wrexham. Can't imagine this disruption helps Gateshead ahead of the Barnet game, which makes our title chances even smaller
