A shocking start from us, lacksidasical was made for that defence. Bearing in mind we have big weaknesses that we have discussed many times on here and the loss of a couple to injury this week, apart from the first 3, we have at least looked a bit more solid and shown some passion.

A bit more composure with the ball into the box and if we start better than we did in the first, in the second half, hold it to just the one down, then we could bring Dalby on for the last 15 for Atkinson and go 2 up front and try and get something from this game.

If there is going to be any more goals, the next one will be crucial.

Grimsby aren't going anywhere this season on that evidence. :fl:
Aye 1-0 up at half time and joint top of the league without really getting going. Said any win will do to get us back to winning ways, so I'm happy. We've not been great, but we've not been bad by any stretch of the imagination compared to recent matches.

That was shocking from Sousa, but I definitely don't agree with those comments about his end product. They've just been looking at his stats and lack of goals/assists I reckon. The amount of times he's pulled the ball back for someone to have a shot on goal after getting in round the back this season is great. Guaranteed he has a few more assists if we have a decent natural #9 in the squad.

Sousa is walking past John white for fun it’s making me cringe watching it. White a good pro but he’s finished

Sousa walks past everyone I wouldn’t judge him on that.

His end product however, is awful. Somebody on the fishy claimed he’s better than Siriki Dembele a few weeks back

It’s that Dunne in midfield you need to get rid of. Giving me absolute Robbie Weir vibes and it’s sending shivers down the spine reminiscing about them dark days ..

Slow, Ponderous, crap on ball. Horrid

Haha definitely not better than Dembele obviously, however he's arguably had as many decent games in a Town shirt as Dembele did.

Does the National League always have games on BT on Friday nights? Or is this a one off

There you go, great little ball into Clifton from Sousa that. A proper striker on the end of it and we're troubling Arnold there.

This is exactly what he was like for us last season, though we had many others like him.

Does Murphy do anything but moan?
Seems to be one of those players who complains at every little contact that it stops him from getting free-kicks when he is actually fouled.

Southend haven’t changed their game plan from last week against us then.

Pass it around slowly between the back 4 and midfield, then chip aimless balls forward.

Think I have seen a fair few on a Saturday lunchtime with a 12.30 start. Frequently watch the first half before going on to Home Park.

Usually on Saturday evenings. I think it's because they want to show Lazio v Juve in that slot tomorrow.

It's because Southend asked for the fixture to be moved to Friday night, though that was before BT picked it up

Fair to say this is the epitome of a Hurst side? Handbrake on, even with a side there for the taking if they had a go? As it is, they've started giving Southend set piece opportunities, albeit they seem incapable of crossing a football.

It’s literally 7/8 of these players who are nowhere near it

McAtee is back on the pitch, you may as well all give up. Title's ours to lose now.

Admittedly not watched us this season, but consensus seems to be that we haven't been a typical Hurst team at all this season. Only since McAtee and Taylor got injured have we been devoid of all attacking threat and gone defensive Hurst. We desperately needed to sign a proper number 9 in the summer and we didn't, the first 10 or so games papered over the cracks of missing one, since then it's shown how badly we need one if we want to stay near the top, and tonight proves that.

Tonight yeah, but I suspect tonight is all about getting over the line with the 3 points. As Gladders says we've been a bit more expansive for most of the season than your typical Hurst team.
