All seems very promising for Wrexham fans this I must say... Just wondered who’s actually going to be identifying / Negotiating with / signing these players that your planning on bringing in with your mega-bills?

Have you got a decent scouting network/infrastructure set up already? Or is this something R&R plan to address by appointing people of expertise in this area?

Plenty of examples of clubs at every level of the pyramid that have big finances in place, but ended up pissing the budget up the wall on ill-thought out signings who end up flattering to deceive!

Goes without saying that if you get that part right, along with a decent manager who’s philosophy/style of play fits the profile of players you’re going to be bringing in... then you’ll take some stopping. However, much easier said than done!
This from our new managing director Humphrey Ker:

“Player recruitment is a big thing, and getting people in to help with that – at the moment, Dean and the coaching staff, through necessity, have to do so many jobs on their own and I don’t think people always realise that.

“We fully understand why that was the case, but the beauty is that we now have the resources to supplement it and provide more support.

“We also want to revamp the Racecourse Ground and find a new training complex, but it starts with the smaller things.

The clear implication is that building personnel (CEO, scouts, coaches) is to be a priority. Also, with regard to using "mega-bills" for signings, I thought this in a separate interview with the BBC was interesting:

"So our first objective is promotion but we're not going to spend £5m next year, dig out every journeyman from a higher league and say we'll blow everyone away - we want to build a structure that almost means that inexorably we can't remain in the National League, because the level of facilities and the professionalism that we've instilled."

Very positive to hear that it's long term, steady promotion that they're targeting, rather than: "let's get to League 1 as quickly as we can no matter the cost."

To be honest it feels like like a dream at the moment, so in true Wrexham style we're obviously going to Woking at home tonight.

Weve got fuck all at the moment.

The first step is the CEO and it sounds like backroom staff will be next. Scouting networks will be one of these elements id imagine.

There is so much infrastructure improvement needed I dont expect we are going to be building stupidly expensive squads. In fact they've specifically said thats not going to be the route they are taking. At the moment our playing budget is usually between 1-1.5m a season and it'll probably be a bit bigger than that, but not Salford levels.

We could really do with proper training facilities, and to stop The Racecourse from falling down.

I doubt we'll go up within the next few years, there's definitely going to be some random team suddenly getting 127 points next season.

I guess we will only really know how much we are Going For It™ come the summer and we see what sort of players are coming in.
That club will be Dover, saving up their pennies for next year.

I can't stand Bournemouth and Fulham.

Met a Fulham fan out here the other day, he's from Wimbledon and one of the poshest football fans I've ever met. Eventually told him I don't like Fulham 'Oh, you're the first person I've met who doesn't like Fulham'. Fuck off. I bet there's loads of people who don't like 'em. Ripping us off for our YTS players, Al Fayed, no atmosphere, most pointless promoted side to the Prem ever, every time they go up they are just a pointless waste of time. 'But we were only in the 4th division a year or two' haha. They all forget don't they once they get some cash behind them. Wankers.

Bournemouth, just a Russian oligarch's plaything. Too small for the Prem, just wasn't right seeing them there. Again fans who forget where they came from. But we will never forget. No way.

Just like we'll never forget Wrexham, they will always be one of us even when they defeat Forest Green in the Champions League final in 2028. Nothing changes the DNA.
We put the brakes on that Fulham charge for a year in 97/98 by beating them in the playoffs. Think that was what got Ray Wilkins sacked when he was joint manager with Keegan.

The Andy Pilley episode of Undr the Cosh goes into this a bit, quite an interesting one. It's all well and good splashing the cash on Vardy, Brodie, Mangan, etc. but you've got to have the know how and the balls to go and get your Alan Goodall and your Keith Briggs because without them you're gonna get steamrollered at Braintree or Nuneaton or wherever and you won't get close to the title.

Yep 100%, often known as the Piano carriers to allow the more gifted amongst them to ‘play’!!

I noticed a few people mentioning bournemouth on this thread in regards their rapid rise when the £££’s arrived and they’re the perfect example of having those ‘piano carriers’ in place whilst the big signings rolled in... players such as Simon Francis, Steve Cook, Marc Pugh, Charlie Daniels etc who were there in Bournemouth’s league 2 (some league 1) days, and played a major part in getting them to the PL... and keeping them there!!

Definitely the sensible approach, building a bullet proof infrastructure around the club is what every club lucky enough to benefit from having major financial backing should strive to create ASAP..

Will secure the future of the football club long after R&R leave / decide to move further into the background as your club!

I’m always wary of wealthy owners involved in lower league football clubs. I mean it’s understandable as we had one of the richest men in Yorkshire at the helm up until very recently, with a rumoured net worth of over £100m... and yet that period of the club’s history is now seen as some of the darkest in our 155 year existence where the disconnect between fans and club had never been so vast, so it just shows money can’t always buy you happiness!! :ffs:

Has to be said though, that all the noise these guys have been making so far seem nothing but positive, so from a fellow lower league sufferer, and banter aside... I hope everything goes to plan for Wrexham and that they’re back where they belong in the very near future!! I just hope we’re tagging along with them! :2thumb:

Yes I was wary too to be honest, even after they were named. But what's brilliant about it is that they seem to want to run the club exactly as any Wrexham fan would if they won the Euromillions. It's *almost* too good to be true.

Thanks for the best wishes!

Hereford are surely bigger than any WPL club anyway

If you were Bakare (Bakare!!) and had the choice of playing champions league football or playing for Hereford against Blyth Spartans on a cold tuesday night on a comparable wage, which one would you take?

Welsh game has been suspended since Christmas, IF it does restart it will only be the WPL that will, but i think it is doubtful

It's not Champions League football.

Qualifiers against B36 Thorshavn and the like are even more tinpot than first round trophy games against Atherton Colliery.

In one of today's updates, Humphrey Ker tells us that we will be getting hot water in one of our stands this year.

Stand aside, the reds are coming.

Hot water? Spoiled. They will be putting light bulbs in the toilets next.

Via Thomas Feaheny on Twitter:
“Wrexham announce a bonus of £250k will be shared between the players if promotion from the National League is achieved at the end of this season

“Also those that play in any game will receive £200 for each win & £50 for a draw, as long as the Club remains in the play-off places.”

A quarter of a mil for promotion is not to be sniffed at, but the second bit is a bit of a random thing to announce.

I thought all bonuses and payments had to in a contract before the season starts.

I remember your CEO being on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

... why have you got a CEO that was on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown?

Why haven't you??

he was a writer on Rob McElhenneys Apple TV show Mythic Quest. Rob used to take the piss out of him for watching football on his laptop in-between shoots, and then got morbidly fascinated by the game of soccer.

He was in the UK pre covid and became the inbetween man for all goings on. Rob trusts him sufficiently to let him be their spokesperson until a time that a CEO is installed and they can get over for a game

I can understand the Netflix boys not wanting this as it will make for a better show next season, but can't for the life of me understand why the fans wouldn't want promotion. It's not like you won't have the funds to make a go of it in League Two next year.

To be fair it is a good panel show.

If he'd have been on celebrity juice you might have had a case here.
