JA has done remarkably well for us to put that out that first XI this season considering his budgetary constraints. The main thing I feel we lack in that first XI is a 20+ goal a season man, but there are goals in nearly everyone in that team. Dennis and Haynes-Brown are also very unlucky to not be in that first team, with Dennis being impressive in pre season so far for me.

As it currently stands we could line up like this, probably would be my choice if I was picking the team now.

----------------------------Farman-----------------------------

Wood----------Waterfall----------Howe----------Beevers

-----------------------------Stanley----------------------------

-----------------Nolan----------------Sparrow---------------

-----------------------------Power-----------------------------

------------------Rhead---------------Hearn-----------------

We have been playing this formation along with 442 and also 433 in some parts of the friendlies but with different players in certain positions, we do have options with 21 in the squad. At least one more in with Harrad being linked up top and then it's loans in or out if needed.

Worrying stuff at the mo from the little I saw of the them on Friday we do seem to have quite a balanced squad with cover pretty much across the squad bar upfront hence the interest in looking at Harrad and Bignall. Would prefer Harrad due to his experience and goals although Bignall looked lively and had good pace.

Harrad would be the smart money looking at his previous record, it's whether we can afford him but hopefully something will get sorted, we definitely need at least one more body up top.

Hope Theo does alright for you, apart from 1 game against Luton he wasn't very good here, does try his best though and probably costs peanuts to pay

He didn't overly impress me at the end of last season. Like you say he is keen as mustard though and looks to have some raw talent in there, but looks like he'll need a lot of nurturing to turn him into a dangerous first team winger.

He didn't do a deal Friday but he did score and having someone who can do that is always handy imho.
As you say Branston it comes down wages but the fact no one else wants him me help too.

This is something we could go with and was tested in the first half last weekend, quite like the look of it. I'd rather someone in there instead of Hatton though. Second half we played a more flat 4-4-2.

Barrow squad almost complete, with maybe a couple of loan signings yet to come in:

------------------------Dixon-----------------------
Young---------Livesey---Grand--------Ashton
-----------------------Fofana--------------------------
------------------------Mellor------------------------------
Haworth-------------Grimes-----------------Pilkington
--------------------------Cook--------------------------------

Subs:
Taylor (GK)
Eccles

S.Williams
McWilliams
Cowperthwaite
Carroll

E.Newby
A.Newby
Ray-Harvey
Symington
Lacey

Walker
Wilson

Real local feel about the squad now - from having Walker as the only Cumbrian, to now having 10 on the books and a few from Lancashire too, it's exactly what the fans have been after. Chairman has stated that he wants the spine of the team to eventually live in Barrow, where as before most players were based in Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Not sure we have signed Beckles yet, but would like to see more of him against Basingstoke/Chelsea/Wycombe.

I would also play Richards instead of Hatton in that midfield diamond. Hatton could be useful at Right Back (Think thats where he played at Grimsby).

Our squad has a really local feel to it also. It's only Chris Bush that's from afar, the rest of the team are either county based, or within a hours drive, with half a dozen from Notts and the same Sheffield. Reckon we will be saving a small fortune in accommodation compared to previous years.

This summer has seen a total upheaval of our playing squad and those who still remain (apart from Danny Hurst) from last season are still on the transfer list. According to NY, our squad (apart from one further loan signing) is now complete. Don't ask me to pick a strongest XI because I literally couldn't.

Goalkeepers:
Danny Hurst
Dean Henderson - Season Youth loan from Man U

Defenders
Danny Morton - Clitheroe
Sean O'Hanlon - Carlisle United
Jordan Thorniley - Everton (loan)
Gareth Roberts - Chester
Scott Duxbury
Mark Lees

Midfielders
Lewis Montrose - York City
Andy Robinson - Shrewsbury Town
Glenn Rule - Airbus UK Broughton
Karl Ledsham - Lincoln City
Micah Evans - Southport
Abdullai Bell-Baggie - Bristol Rovers
Joe Garvin - Colne
Kevin Holsgrove - FC Halifax Town
Chris Churchman
Bobby Lofthouse
Charlie Russell

Strikers
Lamin Colley - Bradford Park Avenue
Kayode Odejayi - Tranmere Rovers
Sefton Gonzales - Clitheroe

You got Ledsham from Barrow, not us.

And Nolan. I doubt he's moved here.

Diagne was another, so just the two that aren't local now I think.

Clubs don't actually pay for accommodation for the players do they?!

We have confirmed that our second choice goalie has departed and that we won't be replacing him.

Our team won't be anything like I first predicted. I'd like to see:

Hurst

Morton - O'Hanlon - Thorniley - Roberts

Montrose - Rule

Bell-Baggie - Garvin - Evans

Gonzales

Harsh on Ledsham perhaps although I think mainly people are saying that because of his goal against United, Evans hasn't done much in pre-season but him and Baggie out wide will cause some damage. Odejayi doesn't look very sharp and I like the look of Gonzales upfront.

After yesterday I think we may well play a 4-3-3 next week, we did it in the first half yesterday and it was quite effective. Most starting spots are probably pretty set, although not sure who will start at centre back and up front.

Smith

Alexander
Oliver
Beckles/Saville
Richards

Stevenson
Lathrope
Hatton

D.Walker
Barnes-Homer/C.Walker
Browne

Since we only have 16 fit players, unless we sign anyone whoever doesnt start will be on the bench.

Would imagine Beckles keeping his place at CB and MBH starting if fit (unless we sign Harrad I reckon)

I suspect that we will line up as follows:

Palmer/Snedker (it's not clear who will be first choice)
Hodgkiss - Langmead - Tunnicliffe - Rowe-Turner
Verma - Maxwell - Clarke
Dawson - Styche - Reffell

Subs: Other GK, Green, Reid, Singh, Hales/Reffell

It depends on if Rob Taylor signs. If so, he'll probably start in place of Reffell who would drop to the bench.

I'd suspect something like this although it's literally a guessing game regarding our most effective starting XI with East, Gowling, Mackreth, Brown and even Pittman all easily good enough to be in there. You could ask me this again in 5 minutes and I'd probably name a different team.

Forgotten Marshall too. I'd probably have him ahead of Monkhouse atm. I'm concerned that Robertson will struggle to regain full fitness for a while. However, I think having East is great as it means we have a specified set piece taker.
