He's not the best keeper in the league, despite their attempts into fooling people that he is.
Don't think you'll find many (sane) Grimsby fans that would tell you McKeown is the best keeper in the league. He was in 2012/13 when he had an absolutely outstanding season but he's been hit and miss since.

Good win for us, makes Saturday's point a decent one.

Great first 20 minutes for Wrexham tonight, but then belford cost us 2 pointless goals. Man falls slower than a tree when it comes to keeping

Honestly thought Harris was going to get sent off too but he seemed to calm down a bit.

Mills taking vose and moke off was a shock as their replacements took a while to settle in, but quigley took his goal well but

Sorry? Not sure I get you?

I was impressed by Dawson, your winger. Great player to be honest. Only player I'd have thought off you.

My username? You do realise CPD Wrecsam is simply Wrexham AFC in Welsh. Can't help people choosing the same name.

Not surprised there idiots on your message board though, I haven't witnessed as many knuckle daggers in my life, as tonight.

That's good for them isn't it?
Nowadays yes, about 2000 home fans is standard for a weekday game and 2200/2300 for a weekend game. Just have to hope people will start to take notice if we can stay up around the top.

As for the game, I thought Braintree were a well organised side, could tell why they've conceded the fewest in the league. Played almost the perfect away performance by soaking up our pressure and then hitting what looked like a late winner, but credit to our lads for sticking to it and getting the equaliser. As someone already mentioned we're just a top quality striker away from being serious title contenders, our chance conversion % must be so poor.

A good win for us but I'm still desperately concerned about how Amond and Bogle must be feeling at this moment in time.

Tomlinson by all accounts is pretty gash yet they can't take him out of the side, despite having great starts to the season. There's a bad atmosphere about the club still and it boils down to the dropping of these two. I've seen Hurst alienate plenty a decent striker in the past, but I don't think the fan base will allow him to do it to these two.

So after all the flak he has taken from the Codheads our Baxter scores against the best keeper in the league, gotta feel for the operation promotion crowd - not. We will probably go on and lose now.
At the risk of bringing this up again (and let's note that it is you that's done it this time), any flak Baxter continues to get off us is fully justified. Clarkey's comment about McKeown pretty much covers it too. Was the best for a few seasons, probably not anymore.

Still no Bogle or Amond until the 70th minute, which could have been very frustrating had we not taken the 3 points. Happy with the points though. Given our shaky home form, I thought Gateshead were going to bounce back after Saturday's defeat. Would be interesting to see anyone's opinions on Tomlinson's performance last night, is he gonna start again against Braintree?

Realistically you are probably limited in crowds. Even in league one you were hardly packing them in. That said 2000+ isn't a bad crowd at this level, as long as you aren't reliant on crowds to give you your budget. If you are still challenging come the end of the season (and I can't see why you won't be) hopefully people will start to take notice as you say, people love a title run in!

Tomlinson works extremely hard and constantly harries the defence. Pretty intelligent passes too. However, woeful in front of goal. Who does that sound like?

Best team won tonight, didn't think we were terrible, but pretty underwhelming after Saturday. Slow in possession and naïve at times, Barrow were sharper and quicker. Back to rubbish tactics of completely isolating Hannah and playing our best centre-half in midfield too, not to mention making subs about 30 minutes after every fan called them in the first place. Sigh.

what did you think of the winner? not much chance for the keeper (or back 4)

The poor results against bottom four teams continue. Last year we failed to beat Telford, Alfreton or Nuneaton, this year we have Southport and Halifax in the bag already. Kidderminster at home next week....shudder.

Halifax were good value for the win.

And we never will pack them in. The town is apathetic towards the team and was even when we were beating the likes of Leeds.

As for last night, I thought we were brilliant in every department, but Braintree's defence was astonishing. You can see why they've conceded so few goals. They were organised and they were, by some distance, the hardest working team I've ever seen at Whaddon Road. Yes, they were time wasting from the start of the second half, and yes they were playing like 0-0 would have won them the League but credit to them for that.

I don't think it was our strikers that were the issue last night as Braintree's defence meant that what few chances we actually had weren't clear cut. Their goal was a bloody sickener though. Worse than the Tranmere one last week.

All in all, top for at least 24hrs at the start of October, I'd have taken that in May.

I agree, Braintree were impressive when they dismantled us. They were very energetic and pretty much impenetrable. Very good away record this year so far.

Was a great strike, just disappointed that after he'd won it on the half way line, Hobson then gave it straight away again. We've got this annoying habit of conceding straight after we score ourselves.

Disappointed not to win last night as we dominated but need to give huge credit to Braintree. I thought they were the best team we've played apart from Wrexham. The term parking the bus really applied to them and although most of the game was played in their third they got everyone behind the ball and worked incredibly hard to close down our players. I can see them taking points from other top teams but they really rode their luck at times and were very fortunate not to concede a penalty or two.

As for our crowds 2000 is about our hard core support now and Braintree didn't bring many at all. If we stay up the top I am sure some of our fans will return as we are missing a thousand or so from our league days.

So it's the erm, big one tonight, as we look to end our awful run of results on TV under Pennock. At least he's being positive about it, saying that he hates live TV games, so we should be in a positive frame of mind tonight.:ffs:

Parkin seems to be back in favour, which is good because he's by far our best forward and he offers a much bigger goal threat then the rest of our strikers. It's vital he gets good service tonight. Shots are a bit up and down, but as long as Luke Oliver and MBH don't start they should fancy their chances of beating us. They will also look to confuse our defence by having several players called Walker to mark, meaning one or two will probably be left free in the confusion. Richard Brodie will be the usual charming character he likes to be, and will get away without getting dealt with due to the amount of cameras and the increased likelihood of retrospective action. He'll also score, and get called a wanker by our huge away support.

Hopefully Jonah gets a good reception from the Shots fans.

Another game where we outplayed the opposition but could've chucked it away. Chester looked a good side, but scored two goals from maybe no more than 4 attempts on goal. We had a lot of the attacking play and were let down by another mistake from our young keeper Dixon. Not convinced by him yet, but a lot of people rate him based on one performance against us last season.

Absolute belter of a goal from Cowperthwaite to win it, and Andy Cook continues to be a force - if he's sold in January, we'll probably go down.
Into the top half, where we should be finishing up.
You won't go down. We're more likely to do that. Proper Jackel and Hyde team this season. Murdered Wrexham on Saturday and if we'd have got the 3-3 with the penalty that wasn't given for the Ashton hand-ball in the last minute it would have been a travesty.

Ball given away by Hobson (had just come on) and cracking shot. We're always likely to concede 2 or 3 away the way Burr sets us up.

Well its look like Kiddy are trying their damn hardest to claim another Conference record. Most games without a win. Thats 19 now I think since a 3-1 win v Braintree last season. Telford hold the record at 30.

I hate football.

Don't worry, if there's any team capable of forgetting how to play football and helping Kiddy get their first win, it's us.

On Guiseley, I think they're the typical promoted side that gets a few good results at the start due to momentum, and then fades badly, I don't see a lot of quality in their side at this level.

I think the same will apply for Bromley eventually as well.

We won a chuffing game and i've managed to bag myself a date with the cute receptionist at my hotel on Saturdy.

My arm is also in danger of turning blue from all the pinching.

Decent game last night and I'm made up for Nathan Arnold after recent events. He gave one of the best individual performances I've seen from a Grimsby player at the park for a long time and I'm sure James McKeown will be buying him a few drinks for a while.

Horrible mistake by McKeown but it can happen to the best of keepers. Arnold got a little bit of luck eith his first as it came off the post and then Russell but he deserved that for his run into the box before that and his 2nd was an absolute peach and worth the admission money alone.

Hurst is taking a lot of stick for again leaving Amond and Bogle on the bench but doesn't seem to be getting much praise for throwing Arnold back into the starting line-up. As for Tomlinson, I think he really needs a goal and is maybe trying a little bit too hard but the criticism of him last night was pretty harsh as I thought he has a fairly decent game, holds the ball up well and brings others into the game.

Thought Gateshead were pretty poor really and we could have won more comfortably. I do find it strange though that most bookie now have us as favourites to win the league with Tranmere and Cheltenham generally available at around twice our odds.

Onto Braintree now and another 3 points will see us right back in the mix.

That is strange, from what I've seen Cheltenham, Gateshead and also surprisingly Bromley have all looked better sides then you against us. We didn't play anywhere near our best and yet our keeper still barely had anything to do last Saturday at your place.

I'd put you as 4th favourites behind Cheltenham, Tranmere and us.

Boreham Wood are awful, can't remember a meaningful shot they had all game with their goal coming from what we always seem to concede a free-kick.

First Half we dominated and should probably have been 2-0 up easily but we cam out in the second half looking to defend when we should have carried on pressing. The substitutions that were made were baffling throwing Dinsley on when Campbell got injured when we had Verma waiting on the bench made no sense.

We won't beat Macc on Saturday and will embarrass ourselves on national TV probably

Tomlinson isn't a consistent scorer. He'll go 8-12 games without a goal then score 10 in his next 8 or something.

There seems to be a pattern developing here where whatever the result everyone seems to call the opposition poor!!

Perhaps to paraphrase george orwell in this league every side is poor but some are more poor (sic) then others.

Everyone we have played has called us poor or lucky if we remain this poor we will make the playoffs if we get just a little bit poorer we may even win the league!!!
