If Celtic joined the top flight, the whole of Ireland would probably sink under the weight of all the plastic fans emptying their sacks over YNWA when they play at Anfield.

In all seriousness, in terms of infrastructure and support, they'd be capable of being a top six side, although Spurs would soon leave them behind when their ground comes good. Otherwise it's daft to speculate, they may be relegation/top championship material but if they're not sitting at the table whilst Scudamore and co are divvying up the contents of Fort Knox, that can't be helped.

I don't know if Spurs would leave them behind though, Celtic have a global fanbase which would only increase further if they became a solid PL side; there would be more potential for expansion from them than Spurs have imho.

Do Celtic really have a bigger global fanbase than Spurs? Can't be much in it. I think Spurs support nationally and internationally is one of the most under-rated in the Prem.

The problem for Celtic would be the advantages they get from European football that if they were in England they wouldn't get - or at least wouldn't get initially or consistently. Hard to tell how much that could set them back.

Spurs will have, what looks like being, the best club stadium in London. They have superior infrastructure to Celtic.

Celtic may have a bigger worldwide appeal but Spurs are bigger than a lot of people think. Plus, Tottenham is in London (admittedly a vile little corner of it, but once this regeneration goes ahead, it will definitely help) which has far greater prices and corporate market access which makes a great difference. Celtic are in Glasgow, improving, but the difference in money with London is huge.

That said, if the TV deals continue to dwarf other forms of income then it may be irrelevant. Sellick would be on TV every week in (at least) two of England's remaining colonies.

I guess the point I'm making is that with the right management, investment and revenue streams they could challenge alongside your Everton's and Southampton's for the top six, however, I see them more as a Newcastle - large fanbase, remote by comparison to others and with a "big club" mentality. Let down by ridiculous overexpection, the local economic state of the area, and by poor performances on the field. Occasionally capable of a challenge before falling away again after the supporters force people out etc...

Anyway! I'm against the idea, a Celtic (as in the 'race' not club) league would be quite entertaining though compared to Scottish fitba.

You'd be happy if Everton won a watered down Premier League?
Yes of course, let the ' big clubs' who rely on foreign investment and foreign supporters to win things join a european league and leave the rest of us to it.

I can guarantee it would be better than watching that league every week look at the Champions League predictable boring shit we have to endure. Let the armchairs pay for that league and proper clubs have their own. And if only 4 or 5 English clubs join a european league there wont be a shortage on players............let Utd, Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool.Spurs go and the world would be a better place.

Just think you could have Everton, Villa, Forest, Leeds et al fighting for the title like the old days. Just realised we have more titles than 3 of them above but we aint classed as big.

So Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool aren't proper classic clubs. Check.

I'm not sure if it would be practical but I think that system would be far more entertaining for the neutral for sure.

You have a very negative, small time view of your own club. No pride in Everton at all, you should be aiming at the highest.

How does it feel arguing with someone who has watched ' your club ' live, more times than you ever will ?

Just to clear something up, my mate is an Everton season ticket holder but only gets to go to 75% of the games due to work and family commitments. Does this make him less of a fan than say someone who just happens to have enough money to attend every week?

the fact you use the word small time sums you up perfectly and you will probably make a banner of this thread and walk the streets of Liverpool with it like your big time mates do.

Villa, Forest and Leeds are all foreign owned.

Everton are the only club who are English owned and their fans flew a banner over the ground protesting at the ownership last weekend.

Yes all the top 4 or 5 have been bought and now OWNED by foreigners been prostituted around the world for financial gain and the English game is all the worse for it.

His point is that foreign ownership isn't restricted to just the top few teams - more than half of the teams in the Premier League are foreign owned, and the same is true of the Championship.

What do you mean 'worse' for it? Some people would argue that the league is better than ever?

Surely as a football fan, you want to see the best players in the world? You don't get to see those every week if you go on pre-season trips to Margate.

Everton spent part of pre-season in Singapore you melon. Stop pretending your club is different, it's not.

That just isn't true. The same teams compete for the title of every year, the majority have teams have next to nothing to play for with the ceiling of the top six.

That's been the same for 20-30 years though hasn't it? The only difference now if that there are better players doing it.
