Those 2010-2013 days with the likes of Crawley, Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Luton, Us, Mansfield, Grimsby, York, Kiddy, Newport etc.

Standard was unreal compared to the last 5 years down here.

*Yes I am aware that Crawley, Fleetwood and Newport were pure evil but I have included them for the purpose of making the point.

I miss facing Kiddy, it was one of those things that made this league bearable.

There's nothing going for it now.

Definitely a Wrexham fan, and my memory of Padge is he was way too depressed about being a wank non-league team to do anything like that
Pretty sure I got accused of doing this by you or another Mansfield fan recently too. Was it definitely not a Mansfield fan? It's got Stringy written all over it for me

Newport was hilarious because after an entire season of people saying they would drop off and then beating us comfortably in both playoff semi legs people were still thinking they'd drop off 1-0 up in the final with about three minutes to go.

That time was probably the best the standard had ever been at this level.

You are referring to the Newport FADE.

I only started to think they might not fade when they scored the second against us in injury-time and I walked out of Wembley.

Terrific experience that was. Newport fans rushed out of the ground to laugh at us rather than celebrate with their team. Pure evil that lot.

Luckily there was only about 2 dozen of them and no-one really noticed.

Newport lot rub off on their players, other year we had them in the L2 play-offs and we had Tyler Walker clean through, their lad cynically cropped him and didn’t get a red, in the replay they got away with a elbow, and earlier in that season Danny Rose got hit so hard he needed to be fed through a tube, and nope, no red card, accident or not, it’s was the most obvious red.

Then this season the referee robbed us and gave them a penalty that 1. Was outside the box, and 2. Was not a handball, I’ve never known a team be so poorly treated by the officials than Mansfield against Newport.

I spoke to you about it but didn’t accuse you, I was the other who nicked the photo and put in my profile picture, all the other stags followed as our form turned ridiculously good! :D

It was definitely way more fun than being in the bottom half of League 2, in my opinion.

Peak competitiveness has to be when Wrexham got, what was it...98 or 99 points? And finished 2nd behind Fleetwood and then lost in the playoffs.

don't mention the 98 point season.....

Was that the Dad's Army season with Ormerod, Adebola, Artell, Wright etc?

Glen Little is one of the few players I've seen able to run a game without actually being able to run himself. He could barely move and that was without a mud pitch like Braintree.

Nah that was the season after the 98 point one, the 12-13 season. We were actually really good that year too and solid as fuck. Playoff final and won the Trophy. Since then we've been shite pretty much non-stop.

Little was arthritic but a genius on the ball.

If we just had one more striker (not Adebola) or Wright hadn't been 'injured we may have done it that year.

We had him for a season after he left Wrexham and is comfortably the best player I've seen in a Wealdstone shirt. Like you say, his legs had gone but his communication on the field in getting players organised and into position plus his technical ability to push us further up the pitch when on the ball was second to none.

I guess it did help that Tom Pett was also in that side and both of them were taking the proverbial at Step 3.

Glen Little is exactly the same age as me.
He was an awful manager for Wingate & Finchley though.

Mayebi! Crikey, what a weird 'keeper he was. Capable of good saves but absolute brainfarts.

I remember him physically pointing to where he wanted players to run, and one time in his cockney accent shouting 'Run you fucking idiot' to Cheesy - ah if only he had a footballing brain he would have been a very good winger

He'll always have Brighton.

Moore has confirmed he will be joining us in a part-time advisory role. Still huge and I suspect our CEO will be handpicked by him.

Big rumours that this week is the week where all has been finalised. If true, I would expect an announcement later today.

This is getting like those summer blockbusters that have a massive prelaunch build up- some of them become seminal moments, like Jaws, while others are spectacular flops, like The Mummy. Which will it be.........Jaws or The Mummy..........I can't wait to find out...... :woot:
