Kinda hoping United would sue the security firm or whatever and put them out of business, you don't leave your bomb replicas lying around in public places.

Silkyman is a twat - this is common knowledge.

G-Dragon just laughed at United for failing to get Champions League football, though. What's wrong with that? We'll be doing the same if they lose the Europa League final.
No you won't!

And surely they would bother to check they had all the fake bombs?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Wonder if someone at the company was watching the news as it slowly dawned on them.......

Oh.....

Fuck.....

Been told Utd will refund all ticket holders and then offer free entry to them. Applies to both sides. Will cost around £3m.

Fair play.

Hang on...

Definitely fair play for doing that, but how's it going to cost them £3m? Are they going to give all the season ticket holders 1/19th of their ST cost back?

I expect they've just done 75,000 people x £40 = £3m as a very rough guess.
I don't know, but aren't most ticket prices in OT are more expensive than £40? The aways were 45 (mine) or 50 odd.

Just seemed some dodgy fag packet calculations. Some of the ST holders might be pissed off if they don't also get a refund, but seems a very extravagant logistical job to refund them all 1/19th of the cost.

TBH, it's a nice gesture, but a bit odd that (if it's true.. Not actually looked anywhere else) they are not only refunding them but making it free for entry. Football matches get postponed at the last minute all the time at lower echelons. Standard practice is that tickets for the first date are just valid for the new one.

Not to mention that they have just taken a huge financial hit in not making the top four. They're a business at the end of the day. Wazzing away another £3m just to look warm and fuzzy is a pretty big call.

I think Manchester United is a little different to lower echelons. With Manchester United you're paying for a premium product (£50 tickets etc.). Also, when lower league games are called off it's usually due to an unplayable pitch. The game being cancelled was clearly the fault of Manchester United's incompetence.

Understand that ticketing smallprint may say they can call the game off whenever they like and simply offer you entry to the re-arranged game, but it doesn't reflect well on them as a business.

Christ, they could pay Wayne Rooney's wages for over two months with that.

I've seen plenty of games cancelled due to incompetence when clubs haven't put the pitch covers on or whatever! It was a postponed game. The system for handling postponed games is the same up and down the country. Why make it into something bigger than it is?

Incompetence at the biggest football club in England is a little different to non-league or Football League clubs (in my opinion). They promote themselves as a premium product, they should be judged by those standards. If I went to the National Theatre, or the Globe and the performance was cancelled due to a similar incident, I'd feel the same.

Plus the vast majority of home fans in lower league football will be local, so the inconvenience of a short-notice cancellation will be minimal.

As most away fans spent £60-£80 minimum getting to OT yesterday, I'd certainly hope Man utd are looking at funding travel for Tuesday. Sadly I can't go to the re-arranged game but seems harsh on those that can having to fork out yet again in the space of 3 days.

Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall of their offices this morning.

I remember with previous postponed games at lower leagues due to dodgy pitches etc, there was usually some cheaper or even free coaches laid on for the rearrangement. Seeing as most people won't be able to make the rearranged game tomorrow at such short notice with work etc, perhaps some discounted travel could be arranged for the same fixture next season?

It's a massively embarassing cock up for the security company, going to cost them massively. With the game being replayed tomorrow and the cup final this weekend I'll be interested to see what side Van Gaal picks.

And people wonder why we give Silky so much shit. I've never seen such a display of relief and glee at struggling into 4th.

How are United at fault for following procedure in accordance to safety?

United had a realistic looking fake explosive device sitting inside their stadium for 4 days without knowing about it. Then United either didn't carry out the legally required health and safety inspection of the ground, or did so and still missed it, before opening the gates to 10s of thousands of paying spectators.

That United themselves didn't leave it behind, doesn't absolve United of any blame. They are still responsible for the actions of their contractors, and presumably United employees would have been involved in the exercise taking place inside their stadium.

The way United & Police etc handled the situation as it developed was first class mind, much credit should be given for that. Evacuating a ground the size of OT is no mean feat.

They did carry out an inspection, that's what led to the matches being called off. Just because the device was found at an inconvenient time doesn't mean they wete incompetent.
